DRAMA ROYAL: King Charles dealt brutal 6-word warning after controversial Prince Harry decision
King Charles is facing fresh criticism over reports that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could stay at a royal residence during their upcoming visit to Britain, with one royal commentator warning the decision may not sit well with the public.
The Sussexes are expected to return to the UK next month for the Invictus Games’ One Year to Go event in Birmingham. If the visit goes ahead as reported, it would mark Meghan’s first trip to Britain since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022 and the first time the couple’s children have visited in several years.
Although Buckingham Palace has not officially confirmed the accommodation arrangements, widespread reports suggest Harry, Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet could stay on a royal estate, with Buckingham Palace among the locations mentioned.
The prospect of the family returning to a royal residence has prompted criticism from investigative author Tom Bower, who believes the King risks misreading public opinion.
Speaking to the Daily Express, Bower claimed many people in Britain remain angry with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex over their public criticism of the Royal Family. He argued that allowing the couple to stay at a royal residence could prove controversial, particularly if they are seen publicly undertaking activities that appear connected to royal life.
However, Bower also suggested there would be less concern if the family remained out of the public eye during their stay.
The comments come only months after Harry and Meghan publicly criticised Bower following the release of his latest book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit And The Fight For The Future Of The Royal Family.
In a strongly worded statement, the Sussexes accused the author of moving beyond legitimate criticism, arguing that he had built increasingly elaborate theories about people he had never met and dismissing his claims as conspiracy and melodrama.
The reported accommodation plans are closely linked to Harry’s long-running concerns over security in the UK. According to reports, he has accepted the offer of staying at a royal residence because of the enhanced protection available there, despite previously declining a similar offer after questioning whether it met his security needs.
One source reportedly described Buckingham Palace as “the safest building in Britain”, while reports also claim Meghan has agreed to stay at a royal residence protected by armed security during the family’s visit.
Harry last travelled to Britain in September, when he held a private 45-minute meeting with King Charles at Clarence House. Afterwards, he briefly told reporters that his father was “great.”
While another meeting between father and son is widely expected during the upcoming visit, reports continue to suggest there are no signs of a reconciliation between Harry and Prince William, with the brothers believed to have had little or no contact since recent family gatherings.
As anticipation builds ahead of the Sussexes’ return, debate continues over whether the visit could mark a step towards repairing family relationships or simply reopen long-running royal divisions.
