Meghan Markle was given a dire warning by a royal commentator regarding the future of her As Ever brand just days after her latest wine launch. On Tuesday evening, the Duchess of Sussex launched her second wine for her lifestyle firm, a 2024 Napa Valley rosé.

A day earlier, Meghan celebrated her 44th birthday, and while she herself did not post anything on her official Instagram, her brand made a tribute praising the “woman behind it all” and noting how she “put her heart, vision & magic touch into every detail”. As Ever launched earlier this year and received mixed reviews from fans and critics, with several people questioning its stock after nearly every collection sold out within minutes of launch. Now, a royal commentator has blasted the Duchess’s brand, saying it’s “predictable, transparent and tone-deaf,” just like her “journey,” before handing out a major warning.

Lee Cohen, a US-based columnist/royal and foreign policy commentator, told the Express: “Is her ‘magic’ conjuring royal racism from thin air or twerking in a hospital room for clout?”

The expert seemingly referred to the claims made by the Duchess during her interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 about alleged discussions by members of the Firm on Prince Archie’s skin colour. While at the time the allegation was widely seen as an accusation of racism from the Sussexes, Harry said two years later that he never called the royals racist, the “British press did”.

He warned regarding her reputation: “What goes around comes around,” before adding: “Markle’s journey is ‘As Ever,’ predictable, transparent, and tone deaf.”

Ms Cohen took aim at As Ever’s birthday post for the Duchess and called it “narcissistic rubbish— painfully contrived, and with her reputation, suspect to be self-penned”.

He went on to claim: “Only a handful of supporters tossed her birthday scraps, proof her reputation’s as unsalvageable as her Netflix flop.”

A spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex told the Express: “Gosh! Mr Cohen’s distress does seem quite profound. I genuinely hope he’s able to find the support and peace he so clearly needs. Perhaps a quiet evening in front of Netflix with a calming glass of As ever rosé..? He’ll soon be able to enjoy it in front of the forthcoming season of Season 2 of With Love, Meghan. Either way, I wish him all the best.”

Meghan’s latest wine launch was described as a “new vintage” by As Ever, which claimed that it was harvested “under the Californian sun” and that it “vintage embodies everything we love”.

The brand added that its latest contribution to the wine market offers “timeless elegance [that] meets the spirit of summer”.
