ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… South Africa champion Adam Thomas has spoken out following his victory after the live finale spiralled into chaos.
An evidently moved Adam was declared the winner during the live broadcast on ITV1 following a public vote, but his triumph came after a rocky stint in camp marked by clashes with David Haye and Jimmy Bullard.
The live finale saw campmates abandon the set, and David – who had previously faced accusations of “bullying” Adam, which he refuted – confronted him on air, prompting hosts Ant and Dec to intervene.
Subsequently on the spin-off show, I’m A Celebrity… Unpacked, all three men were notably absent from the studio, with Ant and Dec sharing their thoughts on the former Emmerdale actor’s victory.

He said: “I walked through this journey with my heart first, no matter what came my way…It was not always easy, there were moments that could have broken me, but I stayed true to myself and that is something I will always be proud of.”
He continued: “I have realised that when people try to dim your light, it says more about them than it ever will about you.
“This experience has shown me my strength in ways I never imagined. Not because of any title or recognition, but because I stayed kind, I stayed grounded and I stayed real.
“Family means everything to me, and there is one person who has been my rock through it all. Happy birthday to my Beautiful wife, you have stood by me when things were tough and reminded me of my strength when I needed it most. I would not be who I am without you.
“To everyone who supported me, who believed in me and showed love, thank you, it means more than I can ever put into words.
“And to those who doubted me or tried to bring me down, I carry no negativity towards you. I have already won in the ways that matter most. I have love, I have happiness and I have stayed true to myself, and that is something no one can ever take away from me.
“I hope one day you can do the same.”

Friends and supporters were quick to rally behind him, with I’m A Celebrity co-star Scarlett Moffatt commenting: “You have handled it all with grace. Sending lots of love. No one can take the title of legend away from you. Keep smiling Adam.”
Strictly favourite Gemma Atkinson chimed in: “Never a doubt!” while another supporter wrote: “Such a beautiful soul Adam. You fully deserved to win last night. It’s such a shame you couldn’t be your usual happy, bubbly self as we all know you are.”
During the aftershow, presenter Sam Thompson quizzed Ant and Dec about “worthy” champion Adam, with Dec remarking: “He had a really tough time in there , he was up and down, he said himself he struggled in there but he did brilliantly.
“He faced all the trials and challenges, he got on with it, he did brilliantly. Yeah he deserved to win.”
