Mexican musician Jonathan Meléndez has died at the age of 38 alongside his pregnant wife, their three-year-old daughter and the family’s nanny in a devastating incident outside Mexico City.
Meléndez, best known as the keyboardist for indie rock band Camilo Séptimo, was among four people found dead inside the family’s residence, according to authorities.
The state prosecutor announced the deaths on Wednesday, initially identifying the musician by his initials, J.S.M.O.
Jonathan’s 35-year-old wife, Ana Paola, who was reportedly around four months pregnant, was also found dead, along with their young daughter and 21-year-old nanny Aleida Romero Victorio.
Authorities said the family’s six-year-old child was discovered alive and unharmed.
The family’s dog was also found dead at the property.
The incident is believed to have taken place on Tuesday evening, with officials placing the timeframe between approximately 5:30pm and 7:40pm.
Nanny’s Family Pays Emotional Tribute
As news of the deaths spread, relatives of Aleida spoke about the young woman and the shock surrounding what had happened.
Lorena Victorio Cabrera, Aleida’s aunt, told CNN: “She was a very hardworking and responsible girl who did not deserve for this to be done to her.”
Authorities have continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Mexico’s secretary of public security, Omar García Harfuch, later announced on social media that two male suspects had been arrested in connection with the case.

Camilo Séptimo shared an emotional statement on Instagram following the death of their longtime bandmate.
“With deep sorrow we bid farewell to our dear brother Jonathan Samuel Melendez Ochoa,” the message read.
The band also paid tribute to Jonathan’s wife and daughter.
“To his wife Ana Paula and his daughter Sofia. They will live forever in our hearts.”
“We celebrate your music, your life and your light. Rest in peace.”
The tribute quickly drew a huge response from fans, receiving more than 280,000 likes and thousands of comments.
One person wrote: “A brotherly hug, you are in our prayers. Our deepest sympathy.”
Another added: “We are so sorry.”
A third described the news as a “great sadness,” while another fan sent support to both the band and the families affected.
A Career Built With Camilo Séptimo
Jonathan helped form Camilo Séptimo in 2013 alongside singer Manuel Mendoza and guitarist Erik Vázquez.
With Jonathan on keyboards, the group developed a distinctive sound influenced by artists including Daft Punk, Arctic Monkeys and Devendra Banhart.
Over the following years, Camilo Séptimo became an established name in Mexico’s indie rock scene.
The band has released four studio albums, with its most recent record, Jardín de las almas, arriving in 2023.
For fans, the band’s statement underscored the personal loss behind the tragedy.
Jonathan was remembered not only as a musician and founding member of Camilo Séptimo, but as a friend and “brother” whose work had been central to the group for more than a decade.
