Love Island rocked by first-ever final twist ahead of tonight’s final

Love Island has been rocked by a major twist just days before the final, with the usual final four couples reduced to a final three after dumped Islanders were given the power to decide who leaves the villa.

Sunday night’s (July 26) penultimate episode saw former Islanders return to the Majorcan villa, with the remaining couples facing an unexpected vote that would determine who made it through to the final.

Tensions were high as the dumped contestants were asked which couple they felt least deserved a place in the final. After a heated discussion, Mica Harris, 21, and Samraj Toor, 25, were chosen as the couple to leave the villa, receiving the highest number of votes.

The pair were voted as the weakest couple by Tommy, Robyn, Ethan, Elicia, Finley, Halle, Jordon and Martha, picking up eight votes out of a total of 18.

However, just as Mica and Samraj were in the bedroom speaking about their journey in the villa, they recieved a shock text. The text revealed that their exit wasn’t the last of the drama for the day.

The couple were told they would have the power to choose another pair to leave the villa alongside them, meaning only three couples would make it to Monday night’s final – a first in Love Island history.

Mica and Samraj were left with the difficult decision while the remaining Islanders chatted in the garden, unaware of the twist unfolding behind the scenes.

The pair’s decision will determine who joins them in leaving the villa and which three couples will compete for the Love Island crown.

The twist did not go down well with viewers, as angry fans flooded X, formerly known as Twitter, to hit out at the decision to shake up the final week.

One user wrote: “I actually hate when the Islanders get the decision,” while another said: “Producers are pathetic for that plot twist. Not even a gag just unnecessary.”

A third fumed: “This plot twist is absolute bu***hit, producers don’t give a f**k about the public opinion.” While another viewer stated: “They’ve done this final week so poorly it’s a joke. why are we having drama the day of the final???? i’m so tired.”

A fifth user argued: “It makes zero sense to give Samraj and Mica a say in who reaches the final when the public has repeatedly voted them into the bottom. The logic just isn’t there…”

The dramatic twist means viewers will have to wait until the final episode to find out which couples make it through and who misses out on the chance to win.

The Love Island final will air tonight on ITV2 at 9pm.
