Meghan’s Latest Hollywood Blow Has Given William And Kate The Upper Hand In A Very Public Way

Hollywood could have been a surefire way for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to cash in on their ready-made celebrity status. If they hadn’t gone whining to Oprah Winfrey in a tell-all interview straight out of the starting gate, the Sussexes could have made a considered contribution to the world of entertainment, combining Meghan’s acting career with Harry’s royal ties.
Unfortunately, cutting ties with both sides of the family and upping sticks to Montecito to become a lifestyle-guru-slash-stay-at-home-dad wasn’t the way to go about it. Public opinion has turned on the duke and duchess, leaving them floundering. Netflix and Spotify deals have fallen to the wayside, and Meghan’s With Love show was brutally mocked in reviews.

Their latest foray into the entertainment industry, with the release of documentary Cookie Queens, was similarly humiliating. It was pipped to the post at the box office by a 70-minute compilation of cat videos.
All this has added up to another major blow for Meghan and Harry – to be overtaken financially by Harry’s estranged brother Prince William and his wife Princess Catherine. RadarOnline has reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales have raked in $11.7million with their charity, American Friends of the Royal Foundation, in 2025.
The US branch of the organisation made up a whopping 44% of the annual $26.5million income.

Meanwhile, Meghan and Harry’s charity Archewell Philanthropies last released figures in 2024, making only $2.6million in revenue – down from $5.7million in 2023.

A source told the publication: “For William and Kate, the latest accounts show American fundraising becoming an increasingly substantial component of the Royal Foundation’s finances as its programs continue in Britain and internationally.”
And if you look at this through the lens that William could be the one currently keeping Harry from rejoining the Royal Family, after his “kindly” father King Charles apparently relented, it’s even more of a public embarrassment for Harry.
William is constantly showing him up, while Meghan tries desperately to copy her sister-in-law – from social media posts to outfits. But when the Sussexes are reportedly struggling financially, to have William once again come off as the more successful brother… it’s got to sting.
