Tim Curry, the much-loved British actor whose unforgettable performances spanned film, television, theatre and music, has d!ed at the age of 80.

The star, best known for playing Dr Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, passed away peacefully at his home in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles, according to his longtime manager and friend Marcia Hurwitz.

Police reportedly arrived at the property at 11.23pm on Tuesday following an earlier emergency call to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Dispatch audio obtained by TMZ indicated that officers responded to a d3ath investigation after a medical emergency was reported at Curry’s home. He was pronounced d3ad at the scene.

Authorities do not suspect any foul play. An immediate cause of d3ath has not been announced.

Tim Curry faced serious health challenges

Curry had experienced significant health problems since suffering a near-fatal stroke in 2012.

For many, he will always be the flamboyant Dr Frank-N-Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Others remember him as the terrifying Pennywise in the television adaptation of Stephen King’s It or as Wadsworth, the increasingly frantic butler at the centre of the comedy mystery Clue.

His unmistakable voice also introduced him to younger generations through numerous animated productions.

Hurwitz’s statement reflected the wide range of characters that made Curry such an enduring figure.

“He is, depending on who you ask, the definitive Dr Frank-N-Furter, the definitive Pennywise, the man who made a butler’s d3ath-scene monologue in Clue an all-time comedic bit, or simply ‘that unforgettable voice’ from a beloved cartoon of someone’s childhood,” she said.

The tribute also highlighted how Curry continued pursuing artistic work following his stroke.

“Few actors can claim to have left as many distinct fingerprints on pop culture,” the statement continued, adding that he kept expanding his achievements as both an artist and, more recently, a writer.

Although celebrated for his colourful stage presence and larger-than-life screen characters, Hurwitz said those closest to Curry would remember a different side of him.

His greatest personal legacies, she said, were his “curious, expansive mind” and his “generous, gentle heart,” both of which remained filled with anticipation until the end of his life.

Curry largely stepped away from the spotlight after his 2012 stroke, but he occasionally returned for public events.

In 2015, nearly three years after the health crisis, he attended the Actors Fund Tony Awards Viewing Party in Los Angeles. During the rare appearance, he was presented with a lifetime achievement award recognising his remarkable contribution to entertainment.

Curry also spoke candidly about his recovery, explaining that maintaining his sense of humour had been essential while adjusting to the challenges caused by the stroke.
