Queen Camilla and Princess Catherine made a telling move in front of millions when they rocked near-matching outfits on Commonwealth Day. On Monday night (August 17), royal expert Anna Murphy joined hosts Katie Nicholl and Jo Elvin on their YouTube series, The Royals Uncensored, where they discussed the latest royal news hitting the headlines. It didn’t take long for the conversation to turn to the Queen Consort as the 55-year-old broadcaster discussed her top 10 fashion moments over the last 12 months.
One of the highlights of the year so far for the broadcaster was Camilla and Kate’s near-matching ensembles during the March celebration, which appeared to reveal a subtle code between the Windsor and Wales households. She confessed: “This, I think, is what is so brilliant about how the royals code their fashion with real meaning and diplomacy.

“This was for Commonwealth Day in March, and it looked to the world as if Catherine and Camilla had matched their outfits in a rather symbolic show of unity. Camilla was in red, and Catherine was in blue, which echoed the colours of the Union Jack, and they even made sure that their jewellery complemented each other.”
Ms Elvin went on to state that “there really are no accidents in royal wardrobes” as she grilled Anna Murphy, fashion editor of The Times, about what their outfits really meant behind the scenes. The expert agreed: “There’s clearly consultation on the colours.
“Catherine’s in blue this time and Camilla’s in red. The power of clothes is enormous, and the Royals are a symbol of this country and of a certain sense of timelessness. So for them to use their clothes to make that symbol shine is absolutely what they should be doing, and they are doing it really, really well.”

The host went on to add: “I love this show of unity between the two generations. This obviously shows the clear communication between the houses and a desire to show a united front in that way. I think that’s really lovely.”
Meanwhile, fashion designer Amanda Wakeley OBE, who has dressed members of the Royal Family, chimed in with: “I think this is a silent message to all of us that she’s really the glue in the family.”
It didn’t take long for viewers to flock to the comments section to share their insights into the royals wardrobe online. One user penned: “I think part of why Catherine looks so happy is how she and William work together, and it appears they truly have a happy marriage.”
Another agreed: “Princess Catherine is always spot on. Nothing else needs to be said about it, her style is fabulous.” A third echoed: “Camilla and Catherine looked nothing short of sensational on Commonwealth Day. You can tell their friendship goes beyond family duties.”
