Rachel Reeves and Keir Starmer obliterated in LBC rant: ‘You can’t make it up!’

Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced that some changes will be coming over the summer including free bus fares for people under the age of 15 as well as a slash on VAT for some major attractions, such as zoos and theme parks. However, the decision has caused some frustration among the public which, in turn, has sparked rants online.
LBC host Ben Kentish spoke of the news on his radio show and made it clear that he was utterly bewildered by the choice as he kicked off a rant by saying: “You couldn’t make it up. A week and a half after Keir Starmer gives that big ‘save my career’ speech in which he says, ‘I accept that incremental change won’t cut it’. Fast forward a week and his Chancellor, in the middle of a cost of living crisis, with fuel costs soaring, food prices going up, bills going up, everything going up, stands up and proudly declares that she’s cutting the cost of a ticket for Thorpe Park by a fiver.”

He then questioned if that move was “in a nutshell” everything that has gone “so badly wrong” with Starmer’s Government. He then sarcastically said: “You can’t afford the food you used to buy and you’re worried about your heating bills but you know, natural history museum?”
Kentish then obliterated the pair even further and said: “This is why she’s one of the worst Chancellor’s we’ve had in a very, very long time and this is why Keir Starmer, if Andy Burnham wins that by-election, is out of power. Because incremental, cautious, minimalistic change is all they’ve delivered.”
As the clip was shared to X, people rushed to the comments to share their fury. One user wrote: “It’s just a Treasury solution idea they have reached in a 15 minute meeting to combat the atrociously bad press Reeves is getting. Won’t help and didn’t go far enough as they are bankrupting the country. Laughable.”

Another said: “Starmer’s government keeps running into the same problem: technically competent messages delivered with the political instincts of a HR compliance seminar.” However, others were rushing to the defence of the pair as people fumed he should “stop moaning” and that while the perks won’t mean much to him it would “mean the world to some families”.
The announcement has caused quite the stir with people sharing their frustrations over the decision making process, with a number one concern for a lot of people being fuel prices, many have questioned why that wasn’t included as a focal point.
It follows a series of bad news for Keir Starmer after multiple MPs have called for his resignation following a defeat at the local elections.
