Coronation Street Actress Paula Williamson’s Tragic Final Months Before She Was Found D3ad at 38

Former Coronation Street actress Paula Williamson was just 38 when she was found d3ad at her home in Stoke-on-Trent, bringing a tragic end to a life that had become increasingly public in the years before her passing.

Williamson, who also appeared in Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, was discovered in bed by her boyfriend Peter Jones on July 29, 2019.

An inquest later heard that she had died after taking a combination of substances and alcohol, with the official cause recorded as multiple drug toxicity. Police found no suspicious circumstances.

Her d3ath came only months after the breakdown of her highly publicised marriage to prisoner Charles Bronson and while she was reportedly working on a tell-all autobiography.

From Soap Roles to National Attention

Born in Sneyd Green, Stoke-on-Trent, Paula graduated with an acting degree from Manchester Metropolitan University School of Theatre in 2005.

She went on to land a number of small television roles.

Between 2008 and 2012, she appeared three times in Coronation Street as an unnamed nurse at Weatherfield General Hospital.

She also appeared twice in Emmerdale, once as a stripper called Holly and later as the leader of an antenatal class, before playing a doctor in Hollyoaks in 2012.

Williamson also appeared in Scott & Bailey and was one half of comedy act Brides of Comedy.

But her acting work was eventually overshadowed by her relationship with Charles Bronson.

Paula began writing to Bronson in prison in 2013 after reading one of his books about his time in Broadmoor Psychiatric Hospital.

She later told the BBC that the book had given her hope and helped her mentally.

After three years of correspondence, the pair met face-to-face at HMP Wakefield in November 2016.

By Valentine’s Day 2017, Bronson had proposed over the phone while singing My Way.

They married in the prison chapel that November.

Marriage Unravels in Public

At the time, Paula insisted the relationship was genuine.

“I’m madly in love with Charlie and he’s madly in love with me,” she told the Daily Mail.

“We just want to be a normal couple.”

But the marriage deteriorated quickly.

In 2018, Bronson said he wanted a divorce after photographs emerged of Paula with another man while she was on holiday in Tenerife.

Their difficulties then spilled onto television.

Paula appeared tearfully on ITV’s Loose Women, where she openly acknowledged problems with alcohol and prescription medication.

“I have got an alcohol problem. I’ve got a drug problem – a prescription drug problem,” she said.

“Every single messed up thing I’ve done for a long, long time is through alcohol. And it needs to stop.”

By March 2019, Paula herself had announced plans to divorce Bronson.

Reports claimed one of the final tensions came after he asked her to dress as a cat during a prison visit, something she reportedly found humiliating.

By June, she was said to have applied for an annulment on the grounds that the marriage had not been consummated.

Found D3ad at Home

Just weeks later, Paula was found d3ad at her home.

Her boyfriend Peter told the inquest that Paula had gone out with friends the previous afternoon despite feeling unwell.

She returned home at around 11.15pm and eventually went to bed at approximately 1am, while Peter slept downstairs.

When he checked on her at around 6.40am, he realised something was wrong.

“I tried to wake her. I couldn’t wake her up,” he told the inquest.

Emergency services were called, but Paula was pronounced d3ad.

The investigation concluded there were no suspicious circumstances.

The coroner recorded multiple drug toxicity as the cause of d3ath.

Peter told the hearing that the couple had been planning to marry and believed they had “a lot to look forward to.”

Paula’s mother, Hazel, said her daughter had struggled with depression as her acting career failed to progress in the way she had hoped, but added that Paula had seemed happier after meeting Peter.

She also revealed Paula had started writing an autobiography earlier in 2019 and had felt pressure over deadlines.

Her d3ath brought an abrupt end to a turbulent final chapter that had played out under intense public attention.
