Today’s instalment of Good Morning Britain focused largely on the local elections, which are being held this week, but Keir Starmer is currently away in Armenia for a summit. “The Prime Minister’s trip comes just days before the local elections later this week, when voters will deliver their first verdict on his government,” presenter Sean Fletcher said before handing over to the show’s political correspondent, Louisa James.
“That verdict is not going to be particularly positive, is it?” Fletcher stated before James, who was in Westminster, shared: “And that may turn out to be an understatement, yes. This is the week that has been talked about for a long time now as the moment which could be the tipping point for Sir Keir Starmer as more than 30 million people in parts of England, Scotland and Wales get a chance to vote on Thursday, and predictions for Labour range from bad to devastating.”

Starmer is joining leaders in the nation’s capital and is due to say that the UK wants to work with the EU to support Ukraine in its ongoing fight against Russia’s invasion, which has been waging on for years.
According to reports Starmer intends to start negotiations to join a Β£78billion European Union loan scheme seen as providing support for Ukraine.
The Prime Minister said: “When the UK and the European Union work together, we all reap the benefits – and in these volatile times we need to go further and faster on defence to keep people safe.
“That is why we are beginning negotiations with the EU to ensure Ukraine gets the equipment it needs to defend its freedom, while driving opportunities for British industry to play its full part.
“I will always act in our national interest: protecting our security, supporting our allies, and delivering jobs and stability at home.”
Conservative shadow foreign secretary Dame Priti Patel said her party will always stand with Ukraine; however, she added: “The Defence Investment Plan committed for autumn 2025 has still not appeared, and Labour have still not committed funded, credible plans to reach 3% of GDP on defence by the end of this Parliament. Starmer would rather spend on welfare than warfare.”
