Princess Diana was likely full of excitement and nerves just like all brides on their wedding day, but the anxious feeling seemingly took over as millions tuned to watch the television broadcast as the couple exchanged their vows. The late royal and the now-King Charles tied the knot in London on this day in 1981, less than one year before they welcomed their first son.
Diana, in front of the millions of royal fans, appeared to mess up her vows – heard calling her husband-to-be by his father’s name. According to the BBC, Diana referred to Charles as Philip – which is one of his middle names. The King’s full name is Charles Philip Arthur George, meaning that Diana got mixed up with his first and middle name.

Diana called her husband-to-be ‘Philip Charles’ rather than ‘Charles Philip’.
Charles is also known to have made a mistake in his vows, saying “thy goods” instead of “my worldly goods”.
Tying the knot at St Paul’s Cathedral, the couple had 3,500 guests in attendance – with more than 600,000 lining the streets outside the venue.
Recovering from their special day, the couple took a cruise around the Mediterranean and Egypt for their honeymoon.

The couple announced thier separation in 1992, just months after Diana was pictured on her own at the Taj Mahal in India.
As well as welcoming Prince William in 1982, Diana also gave birth to their second son, Prince Harry, in 1984.
The couple officially divorced in August 1996, with the King going on to marry the now-Queen Camilla in 2005.
