The One Show’s Alex Jones Breaks Down After Touching Moment With Queen Camilla

Alex Jones has reflected on her 16 years presenting The One Show, as the programme celebrates its 20th anniversary today. As the show’s longest-serving host, the 49-year-old has experienced her fair share of unforgettable moments, including one involving Queen Camilla.
Asked about her “proudest” moment throughout her extensive tenure, the Welsh presenter confessed it was challenging to select just one before recalling an experience that has remained with her.

She revealed: “It’s a really tough one to answer isn’t it because, when you go back over the last 16 years, which is how long I’ve been hosting The One Show, there’s been so many moments where I still can’t believe I was in it.
“For things like, you know, 500 Words and we did that at Windsor Castle last year.”

500 Words is the BBC children’s writing competition, with Queen Camilla closely connected to the initiative since it was relaunched in 2024.

Last year, she gathered with the competition’s finalists, judges and celebrity readers to celebrate its concluding stage at Windsor Castle.
During the occasion, ‘Paddington Bear’ appeared on stage to perform The Explorer and The Bear from Paddington The Musical, enchanting guests of all ages.
According to Alex, the performance was so moving that she was unable to hold back her tears.
She said: “Paddington sang a song and I burst into tears because I thought, as a young girl, to ever think that I could go from West Wales and end up in Windsor Castle with the Queen there, Paddington there, and all these aspiring writers, you know, all these kids listening and wondering if they had won this lovely prize. I thought this is incredible, how has this happened?”.

The presenter has previously spoken of her nerves about encountering the wife of King Charles when she and her husband Charlie Thomson attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace.
Sharing a photograph of herself and her spouse on Instagram, she wrote: “Such an honour to be invited to Buckingham Palace yesterday afternoon for a garden party.
“I was so nervous about meeting Her Majesty the Queen and @romankemp will confirm how I had to admit to the Queen that my bag was attached to my dress and I hadn’t had time to untangle it before meeting her.”
To celebrate The One Show’s landmark anniversary, Alex and her co-presenter Roman Kemp have been hosting a week of special programmes featuring celebrity guests, memorable reunions, surprise moments and stories that have captivated viewers over the past two decades.
Tonight brings the festivities to a close with an extended hour-long episode, where the duo will be joined by the broader presenting team – Angellica Bell, Clara Amfo, JB Gill, Lauren Laverne and Vernon Kay.
The special programme will also include a surprise live musical performance, alongside the return of former hosts Matt Baker and Christine Lampard, who will reunite on the iconic green sofa to look back on their time presenting the show.
