UNACCEPTABLE! Meghan Markle, Prince Harry drop Archie, Lilibet royal titles for major reason
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly have no intention of giving up Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s royal titles following the family’s return to Britain.
However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to want their children to use a much simpler form of their names at school.
According to royal expert Rob Shuter, Archie and Lilibet will be known simply as “Archie Sussex” and “Lilibet Sussex” in the classroom rather than being addressed by their Prince and Princess titles.
The arrangement would allow the children to keep their formal royal status while having a more ordinary experience at school.
A source claimed Harry and Meghan feel strongly that their children should not be treated differently by teachers or classmates simply because of their place within the Royal Family.
“Harry and Meghan are absolutely not giving up their children’s titles,” the insider said.
“They are Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and that isn’t changing.”
‘School Is School’
The source explained that the couple want to draw a clear line between Archie and Lilibet’s formal royal identities and their everyday lives.
“But school is school,” the insider continued.
“They don’t want teachers calling out ‘Prince Archie’ across the playground or classmates treating them differently.”
That approach reportedly follows a royal tradition Harry himself experienced while growing up.
Although he was formally Prince Harry, he was not constantly addressed by his title in everyday school life.
Harry and Meghan are now said to be taking a similar approach with their own children as they settle into education in Britain.
Archie and Lilibet became entitled to Prince and Princess titles following the death of Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles’ accession to the throne in 2022.
The Royal Family’s official website was later updated to list them as Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex.
That status remains unchanged despite Harry and Meghan stepping away from senior royal duties in 2020.
Archie and Lilibet Begin New Chapter in Britain
The children have now reportedly started school in the UK after moving back to Britain with their parents last month.
Their return marks a major change after six years in the United States, where Harry and Meghan built their family life after leaving royal duties.
A source close to the Sussexes previously told PEOPLE that helping Archie and Lilibet settle into their new surroundings remains the couple’s main priority.
“Settling their children has been, and remains, their focus,” the source said.
The decision to use the Sussex surname at school appears designed to give the children as much normality as possible while preserving their official titles.
It also highlights the distinction Harry and Meghan are reportedly trying to maintain between royal status and everyday family life.
The couple have made no public announcement suggesting they intend to remove Archie or Lilibet’s titles.
Instead, the reported school arrangement appears to be about how those titles are used in practice.
For classmates and teachers, that could mean Archie and Lilibet are treated much like any other pupils.
Outside school, however, their formal royal identities remain intact.
The arrangement also comes as the Sussexes themselves face renewed scrutiny over their own status following their return to Britain.
King Charles has clarified that Harry and Meghan remain non-working royals, but their children’s titles are a separate matter.
For Archie and Lilibet, the reported plan appears straightforward: keep the royal titles, but leave them at the school gate.
As the family begins its latest chapter in Britain, Harry and Meghan are said to be focused on giving their children as normal a school experience as possible while preserving the titles they acquired when their grandfather became King.
