Fans sh0cked by the Reason Patrick Mahomes ditched his curly hair after a heartbreaking Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is blaming the ‘bad taste’ of February’s Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles for his dramatic haircut ahead of the upcoming season.
The 29-year-old quarterback discussed the decision with reporters on a conference call ahead of Thursday’s NFL Draft.
‘I’ve wanted to do it for a while, but it was kind of one of those superstitions,’ he said. ‘I kept winning the Super Bowl, which is a good thing, but I don’t want to cut the hair while I’m doing it.
‘I told everybody during the season, if we win three in a row, or if we lose, I’m getting a haircut. That’s enough.’
As for the results, Mahomes is happy that his famously curly hair is now a bit easier to manage.
‘I’m very excited,’ he said. ‘I looked at some videos from last year and I can’t believe all you guys let me keep that nappy hair for so long. I look way better now with the short hair, so I’ll be keeping this going forward.’

Patrick Mahomes said he cut his hair for ‘superstitious’ reasons after his Super Bowl defeat
It’s now been eight years since the Chiefs picked Mahomes, the son of a former Minnesota Twins reliever, with the 10th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. Mahomes would spend a season as a backup to Alex Smith before moving into a starting roll and winning three Super Bowls and two NFL MVP awards over his illustrious NFL career.
Only a handful of NFL prospects will be on hand in Green Bay for this week’s draft.
Back in 2017, when he was arriving in the league, Mahomes opted to avoid that scene in favor of a more familiar setting.
‘I got to spend it back at home,’ he told reporters. ‘I was very exciting to spend it back at home with the people I grew up with, that believed in me.
‘To be able to get drafted by the Chiefs, the team I wanted to draft me, 10th overall, it was super exciting. You’re so nervous all day long. I may have played a round of golf in the morning but I don’t remember one shot from that golf round. You’re just trying to keep your mind off [the draft]. But then you live out your dream and find out where you’re gonna go.’

As for this year’s draft, Mahomes isn’t working in the Chiefs’ war room, but he did weigh in on the team’s current roster as it stands. A frequent criticism of Kansas City coming off the Super Bowl loss was depth at offensive tackle and receiver.
Asked about newly acquired left tackle, Jaylon Moore, Mahomes said ‘he’s someone we have big expectations for.’
And Mahomes doesn’t believe the Chiefs are in desperate need for help at receiver: ‘I think this can be one of the leading receiving rooms in the league with the guys with have.’
Kansas City general manager Brett Veach told reporters last week that he expects to address both the offensive and defensive lines.
‘Every offseason, it’s offensive line and defensive line,’ Veach said. ‘If you look at how we’ve handled the offseason, we are always investing in the offensive line and defensive line. It’s just some years, you have more numbers to work with than others, and that would probably be a similar challenge this year. Our priority is always on the front first.’
