When Express visited the mouth-watering Taste of London festival, one industry source jokily warned that Jeremy Clarkson “had better w2tch his back” as a major competitor was edging in on his patch, offering top quality locally farmed produce too. However, a spokesperson for Clawson Farms, a brand name which even sounds similar to Clarkson’s Farm, poured cold water on any claims of a feud, revealing that they are actually collaborators.
In fact, Jeremy has even started stocking one of the brand’s cheeses in his Diddly Squat farm shop recently – its famous Rutland Red, which is produced in Melton Mowbray with the help of a centuries-old recipe. The spokesperson confirmed: “We don’t consider Jeremy Clarkson’s brand to be a rival. As a co-operative dairy owned by around 30 local farmers, we think that the light that he is shining on British farming is a good thing.” She continued: “As far as we know he doesn’t make cheese, but one of our team visited his farm shop recently and found that it stocks our Rutland Red.

“This is a traditionally made artisan Red Leicester which won the best British territorial cheese last year, so we are quite proud of that.”
She added: “What we have in common with Jeremy Clarkson is our use of local ingredients (milk in our case); having strong roots in our local community and doing things with craft and passion.
“We have been making award winning cheese for over 100 years. We are the largest of four remaining Stilton makers in the country and see ourselves as custodians of this historic British cheese.
“All the milk for making our Stilton comes from our farms which are located within 30 miles of the dairy. Like Champagne, Stilton has a PDO, and has to be made with milk from Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire and follow strict rules about how it is made.”

Jeremy has chosen to focus on creating beer, with his Hawkstone brand remaining a huge hit, and the local produce served up in his Burford pub The Farmer’s Dog, but he’s also turned to the award-winning Clawson Farm to help him provide fans with cheese as well.
We can confirm that all the ground-breaking flavours from the farm hit the spot, with the dairy being one of only a few in the world who are legally allowed to produce Stilton – and they often blend it with flavoursome tropical mangos and gingers for the ultimate taste accent.
The Wizard’s Fire cheese is made with sizzling Scotch Bonnet chilli relish and red peppers for a tastebud tingling spicy flavour, while another delicious one is Truffle Seeker, blending floral honey with a white truffle and Porcini mushroom sauce.
However, so far, it’s just the Rutland Red which is thought to be available at Diddly Squat – a lively Red Leicester which has been matured for six months before making its way onto shelves.
