Caron Daly led the POPStart segment of the day as usual.
“This is breaking news. The Golden Bachelor, the first couple from the Bachelor’s latest franchise, have just announced they have split,” he said.
“What?” Al, 69, said, as Carson, 50, continued on with the story. “Unbelievable. Who saw that coming?”
Craig Melvin said that it was quick, referencing Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s three-month marriage.
Carson said that a Golden Bachelorette spin-off is in the works and that hopefully who is picked for that has better luck.
As the hosts sat in shock, Al spoke up and said, “It just goes to show that old people can be just as stupid.”
“Well, you said it, Al,” Carson responded as the crew laughed.
“So, poignant on the heels of a breakup. Thanks, Uncle Al.”
Al and the rest of the hosts laughed before Carson moved on to the next topic.
FAIRYTALE OVER
Gerry, 72, and Theresa, 70, announced that they were getting a divorce on Good Morning America on Friday.
Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist reveal they will ‘look for love again’ while announcing shock divorce
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations and we’ve looked closely at our living situation,” Gerry told the morning show.
“We’ve come to the decision mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage.”
They got married on live TV on January 4, just months after Gerry proposed on The Golden Bachelor.
Despite still loving each other, their long-distance relationship put a strain on their marriage.
Theresa lives near her family in New Jersey while Gerry lives in a $637,000 home in Indiana.
They were looking for a place to live together, but couldn’t agree on where, ultimately resulting in them splitting.
During the interview, they were asked if they are still looking for love, to which they both said yes.
Theresa encouraged the viewers to continue to look for love.
Gerry then turned to his former wife and said, “You know I still love you,” to which Theresa replied, “And I still love you.”
FAMILY FIRST
When the couple was asked what changed in their relationship, they admitted that it came down to family.
“The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families,” Gerry said.
“I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.”
Theresa and Gerry were trying to decided on whether they wanted to live in New Jersey or South Carolina.
Theresa confessed that she will have to “give her ring and dress back” to Gerry.
“But you know, we won’t have to give back the memories,” Gerry said with tears in his eyes.
