Ginger Zee Reveals Su1c1de Attempt During Past D3pr3ssion Battle: “I’d Lost All Hope”
TV star Ginger Zee is bravely speaking out about her mental health and has revealed she once battled crippling d3pr3ssion that left her feeling su1c1dal. In her new memoir, [Natural Disaster: I Cover Them. I Am One]the 36-year-old _Good Morning America meteorologist confessed she tried to ov3rdose 0n p1lls at age 21 after feeling “helpless” and “hopeless.”
“I’d lost all hope. I just shut down. It wasn’t w0rth living. I was wasting people’s time and space,” she told People. At the time, Ginger’s roommate and ex-boyfriend realized what she’d done and rushed her to the hospital. Thankfully, the combination of drugs Ginger had taken was n0t lethal, but she was later diagnosed with d3pr3ssion. “D3pr3ssion for me has been a couple of different things — but the first time I felt it, I felt helpless, hopeless and things I had never felt before. I lost myself and my will to live,” she shared.

Ginger explained she had just graduated from Indiana’s Valparaiso University and was struggling to find a career path when she went through this tough time. “It doesn’t matter what’s relative to an0ther person’s tragedy, or whatever it is that’s making you feel low. In that moment, my brain, and probably a chemical somewhere within me, said, ‘You need to k::ll yourself.’ The only voices I could hear were telling me, ‘You are n0t w0rth it,’” she recalled.

“It’s very weird how that works. I didn’t question it. I didn’t sit there and think about it. I just went for it. It’s scary, the way your mind can overpower what is real and what is right. Now as a mother, to think that that could be my child? That is frightening,” Ginger continued. Today, the morning show host is happily married to media personality Ben Aaron and the couple are parents to a nearly two-year-old son, Adrian. In August 2017, Ginger revealed she and Ben are expecting their second baby.

“I’ve been lucky to find a husband who doesn’t judge my past. In fact, writing this book, he wanted more, which says a lot. He’s like, ‘I want to listen. I want to be a part of that,’” Ginger gushed. “I’m now focused on n0t just myself, but on keeping my family happy and healthy. You have bigger things than [your own problems]. That has helped a lot — being a mother has helped incredibly.”
