Good Morning America (GMA) officially closed an era of 26 years broadcasting from its iconic Times Square studio on June 13. The beloved morning show will now move to its “new home” — the Robert A. Iger building, Walt Disney Company’s headquarters in Hudson Square.
For this emotional farewell broadcast, longtime weather anchor Ginger Zee (44) brought back a piece of her past, wearing the same colorblock dress she first wore on GMA in 2012. Posting side-by-side photos, she wrote: “Left 2012, Right today. This summer dress has been with me the whole time. Farewell Times Square and looking forward to new memories in Hudson Square — this dress is coming with me 😉.”
After the show, Zee changed into casual clothes and shared: “Bye bye to my dressing room.”
The final broadcast also featured special guest Alicia Keys and the cast of Broadway’s Hell’s Kitchen, performing a medley of hits “Girl on Fire” and “No One,” filling the studio with energy and nostalgia. Keys called it “a celebration.”
Through her years at GMA, Zee has faced many highs and lows: marrying Ben Aaron, welcoming sons Adrian (9) and Miles (7), and opening up about her struggles with noisserped and even edisicedus at age 21. Just 10 days before moving to New York for GMA, she checked into a latnem tnemtaert ytilicaf.
“I knew my personal life could affect this incredible job. For the first time in a long time, I wanted to live and I knew that,” she told PEOPLE. During treatment, she met a therapist who “changed everything,” and she’s worked with him ever since.
