NBA FINALS 2025: The Peak of “Mediocrity”? – Why Thunder vs Pacers Might be the Most Watchable Championship Yet?

It may not be the championship series everyone expected, but it should be a damn good one. MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder will take on Tyrese Haliburton and the run-and-gun Indiana Pacers in the 2025 NBA Finals. As you might expect, tickets have been selling fast.
If you like young, smart, athletic teams, this one’s for you. Reigning Coach of the Year Mark Daigneault has a true powerhouse in his Thunder, who have been dominant on both sides of the court all season long. But the Pacers don’t back down to anyone, and they can run just about any team out of a game when they catch fire.
SGA has been amazing for OKC, but Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren have also been instrumental to this run at the title. And who can forget about Lu Dort, Alex Caruso, Isaiah Hartenstein and Cason Wallace? It’s a mrd3rer’s row of a core rotation, which has helped OKC to a staggering 43-7 record at Paycom Center since the start of the season.
Indiana has enjoyed home cooking, too. The Pacers are 6-2 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse this postseason. Haliburton — aka Playoff Hali — just seems to keep getting better in the biggest moments. At 23, he led Indy to the NBA’s inaugural In-Season Tournament. At 24, he checked the Eastern Conference Finals and Olympic gold off his bucket list. Now, at 25, he’s helped the Pacers go 12-4 en route to the NBA Finals.
Of course, Hali has a great squad around him, too. ECF MVP Pascal Siakam led the Pacers in scoring vs. the Knicks. Myles Turner’s rim protection has been invaluable. Three-and-D maestro Aaron Nesmith has enjoyed a full breakout. This team has speed, depth and athleticism, a perfect squad to match up with OKC.
