Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is one of a number of inmates on lockdown inside the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

The entire prison is on lockdown after a race riot broke out, officials confirmed to The Mirror US. This means inmates, including the Bad Boy Records founder and Luigi Mangione, won’t be able to get visits from family or friends during the lockdown.

The MDC is said to have been placed on lockdown last week after “more than 40” people were involved in the incident. High-profile inmates such as Diddy and Mangione were not housed at the area where the incident occurred, but the entire jail has been placed on “modified operation.”

Officials with the Federal Bureau of Prison confirmed to The Mirror US that “the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) Brooklyn was placed on modified operations on Saturday, February 22, 2025.” Diddy and Mangione are not believed to have been involved in the incident.

A spokesperson for the prison told us, “Regarding the decision to place a particular facility on “lockdown” or modified operations status, wardens may establish controls or implement temporary security measures to ensure the good order and security of their institution. Modified operations refer to a temporary change to some institution operations for incarcerated individuals that may include movement, programs, and/or services. Ordinarily, institutions remain on modified operations to thoroughly investigate an incident and ensure the safety of employees and incarcerated individuals. In securing their facility, it is always the hope that this security measure will be short-lived, and that the facility will return to normal operations as quickly as possible.”

The statement continued, “Regardless, anytime a facility is on modified operations status, all incarcerated individuals continue to have daily access to at least three meals per day, potable water, unit team employees, medical and psychological services, and other departmental employees. Also, incarcerated individuals are offered the opportunity to shower on a rotational basis and they maintain continued access to communicate with loved ones by sending and receiving mail via the U.S. Postal Service.”

BOP spokesman Donald Murphy also told The Daily Mail, “Responding employees isolated and contained the incident and at no time was the public in danger.”

Combs has been locked up at the MDC following his arrest in New York in September. He is currently awaiting federal trial for charges of racketeering conspiracy, s3x trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution.

Combs has vehemently denied all allegations against him and has pleaded not guilty in court. The musician’s trial is scheduled to begin on May 5.
