Celebrity Big Brother’s Chesney Hawkes has shared an update on Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa‘s ‘sweet’ bond, as he attended the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday.

American singer JoJo, 21, and the British TV personality, 32, struck up an incredibly close bond while appearing on the ITV reality show together last month.

Fans have been sent into a frenzy over their connection as they are convinced they have a blossoming romance, after JoJo called time on her relationship with partner Kath Ebbs at the CBB wrap party last month.

And now their fellow former housemate, Chesney spoke out on his thoughts on what happened during the house as he graced the red carpet on Sunday.

He said: ‘Their relationship is so sweet. They are just lovely. They supported each other throughout the whole time and I think for them they would both say that it would not have been the same without each other.

‘And for us in the house it was just a sweet thing.’

When asked if he he thought it was platonic, he quipped: ‘I do actually. I think it was completely platonic. She was always, you know, a proud gay girl – had a girlfriend, and you know, had a partner, sorry.

‘And was very happy, and so, yeah, for me, they were just friends, you know.’

When asked about what he thinks about their friendship since leaving the house, Chesney added: ‘Listen, none of that is my business to be honest with you.

‘They are friends of mine and I don’t kind of want to get involved with whatever may have happened with JoJo and Kath.’

JoJo and Chris have kept tongues wagging since they got out of the house, and on Saturday, the pair offered a new glimpse at their friendship in images shared on Snapchat.

In an image shared during a Q&A, Chris revealed that he and JoJo perfected the Dirty Dancing lift they’d practiced while in the CBB house.

Chris then went onto share a snap of himself and JoJo on FaceTime together, telling his followers they’ve ‘kept in touch.’

They kept viewers guessing over their relationship but after leaving the house they clarified during a This Morning appearance that they were ‘just friends’.

Many were left unconvinced, especially after Chris dropped out of appearing in the upcoming series of Celebs Go Dating.

JoJo’s latest appearance stoked the flames further when she failed to shut down a possibility of a romantic future when she appeared at Stanford Speakers Bureau for A Night with JoJo Siwa.

The Dance Moms star was asked how she sees the relationship progressing, to which she said: ‘I mean look, we have the absolute most fun together and he is an absolute gem that’s come into my life.

JoJo’s words were met with an abundance of ‘awws’ from the crowd and reacting to them, she said: ‘Don’t let him see this it will boost his ego!’

She continued: ‘Genuinely something I love about him so much is that he has zero ego, he’s a really incredible sweet man.

‘I told him this on the last night, maybe it wasn’t the last night but sometime. I said you’re a vital part of my life that I didn’t know was missing.’

‘But I’m happy that I don’t have to anymore. So yeah he is an awesome guy and I think he will be around for a very long time.’

As the crowd wolf whistled at her response, JoJo told them to grow up.

Confirming that Chris is going nowhere, she said: ‘He’s a keeper, we’ll keep him around, we’ll see.’

Elsewhere during the seminar, JoJo spoke about exploring her gender and s3xual identity in the Big Brother house.

She said: ‘Yeah I didn’t plan it, I’m a firm believer in that life is life, life is going to do what life does. It can’t predict how you’re going to live and it sure as hell can’t predict the future.

‘I think for me personally, the thing that I’m grateful for is as I’m learning more about myself, I’m learning that no matter what it is, it’s okay.

‘Some is going to be easier to navigate and some will be harder to navigate. The good, the bad no matter what it is, it’s okay. As I’m getting older I’m getting a little more comfortable in that.

‘I also realised that there are other people who feel that same way of feeling like they don’t know. So I think something else is that you don’t have to know.

‘You don’t have to have all of the answers, everything in life, it’s not a math quiz you don’t need all of the answers. You don’t need to get 100 per cent.’

JoJo’s talk came hours after Chris made a major Celebs Go Dating U-turn following his ‘intense’ experience on Celebrity Big Brother.

Chris had initially signed up to take part in the E4 dating show before entering the Big Brother house.

However, he has since made a last minute decision to turn down the offer in the wake of his CBB stay.

In a joint statement, both Chris’ rep and a spokesperson for Celebs Go Dating, confirmed to MailOnline that after discussions with his team, Chris had a change of heart and pulled out at the 11th hour following a ‘very intense’ three weeks in the house.

They said: ‘Before entering Big Brother, Chris agreed to join the Celebs Go Dating agency and having his love life placed into the hands of the agents.

‘However, after an incredible but very intense experience in Big Brother, he is taking some time to decompress. ‘

They added: ‘After some joint discussions on both sides, he decided he won’t be joining the show this year, but the door is open for the future.’

It was thought that Chris would be joining the show as a replacement for Christine McGuinness, after she dramatically quit following two weeks of filming.

Had he decided to stay, he would have joined the likes of ex Atomic Kitten Kerry Katona, former Love Island star Olivia Hawkins and S Club 7’s Jon Lee.

Chris and Karma hitmaker JoJo’s ‘flirty friendship’ set tongues wagging both in and out of the house, with many speculating that the two were more than just friends – despite JoJo being in a relationship at the time.

However, they added fuel to the fire after JoJo – who said in the house stated that she no longer identified as a lesbian – dramatically dumped her partner Kath Ebbs at the CBB wrap party.

Kath, who uses they/them pronouns, appeared to suggest they believe JoJo and Chris had ‘fallen in love’ after liking a number of TikTok comments from fans suggesting this was the case.

The pair then spent the weekend together playing tennis, followed by an appearance on This Morning, where they referred to each other as ‘soulmates.’

Chris said: ‘Our friendship is, it’s hard to explain. It’s just a really strong bond. A strong friendship. You can have a soul mate friendship. I think that’s a thing.’

Host Ben Shephard asked JoJo if she wanted anything more from her friendship with Chris, which she replied: ‘Look, he’s a great guy. It’s platonic. We have a lot of fun together. I don’t know the future, whatever life does, it will do.’

Meanwhile, Chris and JoJo have been using a secret code to say ‘I love you’ following their exit from the Celebrity Big Brother house, fans have claimed.

The pair raised eyebrows with their very close bond during their time on the reality show, before spending the first weekend after their exit enjoying ‘Sunday massages’ and walks in the park.

JoJo headed back to Los Angeles on Monday night to reunite with her mother Jessalyn following her memorable visit to the UK.

But viewers have suggested JoJo and Chris’s time in the iconic house was enough for them to form their own special code to communicate their feelings for one another.

Responding to a TikTok posted by This Morning, in which the duo were asked who they would choose to spend a day with in the Big Brother House, many fans noticed they both have a persistent habit of tapping each other twice.

With fans convinced it had a hidden meaning, comments included: ‘Does anyone else think that them double tapping each other is code to say I love you? They do it a lot’;

‘The two little taps they gave each other at the end!!! Bet they’re code for ‘love you”;

‘lol there’s a lot of tapping going on’; ‘You are on to something.’;

‘I thought I was the only one who realised those constant taps, like some secret code’; ‘It’s defo code.’;

‘Omg and the last one with his index is like clearly intentioned to be twice’; ‘Just watched that back and it’s 100% code for love you’.

The 2025 BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises is taking place at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday.

The star-studded evening will see a slew of celebrities take home awards celebrating excellence in TV, as well as a line-up of standout performances.

Global music stars Jessie J and Tom Grennan are both set to put on a show at the ceremony, with powerhouse Jessie singing The Award Goes To as her first TV performance in six years.
