An ITV News star has quit the show after four years on screens and announced a move to a rival broadcaster.

Anushka Asthana has co-hosted ITV’s Wednesday evening political discussion programme Peston since 2018 and has been the ITV News Deputy Political Editor since 2021.

She also previously presented BBC Radio 4’s Week in Westminster show, and in 2018 became the host of The Guardian’s podcast, ‘Today in Focus’, amongst other ventures.

Now, the news anchor has made a career move to ITV’s rival, Channel 4, as its US Editor.

On her new role, Anushka said she was ‘thrilled’ to be joining the broadcaster this summer.

She said: ‘I am thrilled to be appointed US Editor of Channel 4 News, and join such an exceptional team at a pivotal moment for US and global politics.

Anushka also announced her new job on social media and posted on X, ‘Some personal news!’ alongside Channel 4’s own statement.

She was flooded with support in the comments from fans and fellow journalists, and one person posted: ‘Many congratulations!’;

‘Well done!!! But equally, noooooo! I’ll miss your politics trips to the North!’;

‘Such exciting news – what a time to do that job. Huge congratulations – though I’ll miss you.’;

‘This is very exciting! Huge congratulations. I’ll miss you on the Westminster beat.’;

‘Congratulations Anushka! What an adventure you’ll have.’
