NFL icon Terry Bradshaw has never hesitated to express his doubts about Mike Tomlin’s capabilities as a coach.
Tomlin has been at the helm of the Steelers since 2007 and has never had a losing season. However, the franchise has lost six straight playoff games.
The Steelers won the Super Bowl in 2008 against the Arizona Cardinals but lost to Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers two years later.
Since then, Pittsburgh has only reached the AFC Championship game once in 2016.
Following the Steelers’ ousting by the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round this year, there were calls to have Mike Tomlin fired.
Bradshaw, a regular FOX analyst, formed his opinion on Tomlin years ago.
“I don’t think he’s a great coach at all,” Bradshaw said of Tomlin on Speak For Yourself in 2016. “He’s a nice coach. To me, and I’ve said this, he’s really a great cheerleader guy. I don’t know what he does. But I don’t think that he’s a great coach at all. His name never even pops in my mind when we think about great coaches in the NFL.”
According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers are already planning to bring Mike Tomlin back for the 2025 season.
The franchise reportedly is “not planning to make any move” at head coach.
Terry Bradshaw also blasted Tomlin for his decision to keep Russell Wilson at quarterback over Justin Fields.
“I totally disagree with this decision by Mike Tomlin,” Bradshaw said at the time after Tomlin benched Fields. “I would stay with Fields. Fields fits this team’s personality. They like to run the football. He’s a big strong running quarterback, athletic enough, but also a guy that can move the football through the air. I don’t understand the move.”
In 18 seasons with the franchise, Tomlin has compiled a 183-107-2 record and has led them to two Super Bowls.
Mike Tomlin Addresses Speculation About Teams Wanting To Trade For Him
After the Steelers were eliminated from the playoffs, there were talks of Mike Tomlin losing his job.
That has since been debunked.
Then came talks of teams possibly trading for the head coach.
Tomlin was asked if he had a message for any team that may call the Steelers about a possible trade for him.
“I have no message. Save your time,” Tomlin said.
One unknown team has already reportedly called the Steelers to inquire about trading for Tomlin, but it looks like nothing will happen.
