Surprise NFL Team Has Reportedly Emerged Out Of Nowhere As Serious Threat To Sign Aaron Rodgers Away From Steelers

Aaron Rodgers signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers has felt inevitable for a while, but it might not be a sure thing after all.

Rodgers was linked to the Steelers, New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings in the early stages of 2025 free agency. But the Giants are out of the sweepstakes after signing veterans Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson, and multiple reports indicate that the Vikings are no longer interested in Rodgers.

The Steelers have stated that they’re in no rush for Aaron Rodgers’ decision, but a new development in “The Big Easy” may have changed that.

On Friday, news emerged that New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is dealing with a serious shoulder injury that could sideline him for the 2025 season. Carr has two years remaining on the four-year deal he signed in 2023 free agency.

With Carr’s status for 2025 up in the air, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio believes that the Saints could target Aaron Rodgers in free agency:

“With Saints quarterback Derek Carr reportedly suffering from a shoulder injury that could impact his availability for 2025, the Saints suddenly need a quarterback. And Aaron Rodgers is the best available free agent.

Expect to see a report, sooner than later, that the Saints have reached out. Whether it goes anywhere remains to be seen. However, New Orleans becomes another option for Rodgers…

So it’s the Steelers or maybe the Vikings or maybe the Saints or maybe he keeps on waiting to see if a starting quarterback with a clear-cut contender suffers a season-ending injury.”

Rodgers isn’t in a rush to make a decision on his playing future, so the Saints have the opportunity to jump in and make him a compelling offer. The Steelers have a better roster than New Orleans, but the four-time league MVP could be intrigued by the opportunity to play in the weak NFC South.

Steelers Are Aaron Rodgers’ Best Option

At the end of the day, the Steelers remain the best landing spot for the 41-year-old Rodgers. They’ve always been a playoff contender under Mike Tomlin despite lacking elite quarterback play over the last seven years.

If Pittsburgh signs Rodgers, he’d join an offense led by wideouts D.K. Metcalf and George Pickens and tight end Pat Freiermuth. Throw in a top-10 defense, and a healthy Rodgers would make the Steelers a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
