Appearing on TalkTV, royal commentator Dickie Arbiter was asked whether the King’s decision could mean the Sussexes’ stay in Britain proves to be temporary.
His answer was striking.
Arbiter suggested he does not believe the couple’s UK move should necessarily be interpreted as a permanent relocation.
“I’m not sure they are here long-term,” he said, before predicting that Harry and Meghan could return to Montecito for Christmas.
The remark will inevitably raise eyebrows given the scale of the Sussexes’ return.
After six years in California, the decision to bring their children back to Britain had appeared to signal a significant change in direction.
Yet the latest developments have highlighted just how difficult it would be for Harry and Meghan to rebuild a role within the institution they walked away from in 2020.
Palace draws a very clear line
The King’s message was particularly significant because it came after renewed speculation surrounding the Sussexes’ public activities.
Harry has continued to support charitable causes, including the Invictus Games, while Meghan is expected to pursue her own commercial and creative interests.

For now, there is no confirmation that they intend to leave the UK.
But after the King’s dramatic reminder that their status has not changed, the Sussexes’ return suddenly looks far less straightforward than it did just weeks ago.
