Prince Harry and Meghan’s UK return is not just bad for royals – it could be damaging

I think many people expected this day would eventually come, but few could have predicted it would happen so soon. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially returning to the UK. The couple have reportedly found a non-royal residence to live in, while their two children have already been enrolled in school. What this ultimately means for the Royal Family remains to be seen, but I can’t help but suspect their return could create more problems than it solves.

It is understood there will be no change to Harry and Meghan’s position as non-working members of the Royal Family – and, given that they chose to step away from royal life and leave the UK behind for a new life in Montecito, that seems entirely fair. But realistically, how long will it be before King Charles is faced with renewed calls for Harry to return to royal duties? Surely that is part of the reason he is returning, and a half-in, half-out approach is much easier to achieve when in the country.

That said, it’s difficult to look past everything that has happened over the past six years. The Sussexes’ relationship with the Royal Family has been marked by public accusations, bombshell interviews and shocking revelations, but is their return about to mark the start of a change?

Piers Morgan doesn’t seem to think so. The presenter shared his prediction for what will happen following the Sussexes’ return, and it isn’t particularly reassuring for anyone.

He wrote on X: “The one nailed-down certainty about the return of the Sussex circus clowns to Britain is that there will be endless drama, damaging leaks by them to the media about the Royal Family, and simultaneous hypocritical whining about ‘privacy invasion’ by the same media.”

Damaging leaks is a huge suggestion, but it’s hard to disagree given the couple’s track record. Meanwhile, Meghan has repeatedly slated Britain and made serious claims about her experiences within the Royal Family, while Harry has spoken about his concerns over bringing his children to the UK because of security fears.

And yet, here we are.

GB News presenter Patrick Christys also questioned why Harry and Meghan would choose to return to a country whose media they have so openly criticised.

He said: “Prince Harry explicitly labelled the UK tabloid media as “bigoted”, stating that they actively manufactured a toxic environment rooted in control and fear.

“Well, with respect, moving back to that country with that same press, which he has just unsuccessfully tried to sue, it’s probably not going to be a great idea for him.

“I can’t help but wonder whether or not, with my conspiracy theory on, he knew that this was in the pipeline and he wanted to secure a victory over them before he came back in order to try to get them to back off.”

It raises several questions about why Harry and Meghan have decided that now is the right time to return to the UK. The move undoubtedly marks the start of a new chapter – but is it one that could have significant consequences for the Royal Family?

For now, all we can do is wait and see.
