BREAKING: BBC Radio 2 Host Abruptly Pulled Off Air Minutes Into Show As Unexpected Drama Unfolds
BBC Radio 2 presenter Reverend Kate Bottley was forced to leave her Sunday morning programme early after becoming too unwell to continue broadcasting.
The 51-year-old, who co-hosts Good Morning Sunday with Jason Mohammad, had been struggling with her health from the start of the programme before eventually leaving the studio less than an hour into the show.
Jason was left to continue alone and explained the situation to listeners live on air.
“Now, if you’re just joining us, you will know the Reverend Kate Bottley usually starts talking at this point of the show,” he said.
“But unfortunately, if you’ve been listening since six, you will know that she’s been a little poorly.”
He then confirmed that the team had decided Kate should go home and recover.
“So what we’ve done is we have sent her home, so she’s gone home to get some rest,” Jason explained.

Jason Mohammad Sends Support to Kate
Jason told listeners that Kate had wanted to thank everyone who had already sent supportive messages before she left the studio.
“Before she left, she wanted to say a big thank you for all the love and lovely, gorgeous messages that you’ve been sending,” he said.
The presenter admitted Kate’s voice had been noticeably struggling throughout the morning.
“She’s gone home to rest and recover and recuperate, because, God bless her, her voice was really struggling this morning,” he continued.
Jason then sent his co-host a heartfelt message over the airwaves.
“Reverend Kate, we are sending love and strength and power across the radio airwaves today. So get well soon.”
Kate Shares Update From Home
Several hours later, Kate took to social media to update listeners herself.
Posting a selfie from home in a BBC Radio 2 hoodie, the former Gogglebox star revealed she had managed just 50 minutes on air before accepting that she was too unwell to carry on.
“Shout out to my @bbcradio2 family for sending me home this morning,” she wrote.
“After 50 minutes on air, it became apparent I was no use to anyone.”
Kate also thanked listeners for the messages she had received and praised Jason and colleague Jenny Smith for looking after her.
“So many lovely messages from our lovely listeners,” she said.
“The always splendid @mrjasonmohammad and wonderful @jennysmithuk for being THE BEST humans.”
She added that she was now resting at home with her dog and a hot drink.
“I’m now on the sofa with the dog, some hot Vimto, wearing my comfies.”

Kate Forced to Cancel Christening Plans
Kate also revealed that her illness had forced her to cancel two christenings she was due to conduct later that day.
She apologised to the families involved but said staying away was clearly the safest decision.
“Apologies too to the families of the two babies I should have been christening today,” she wrote.
“You would not thank me for giving this to your precious children.”
She signed off her update with: “See you on the other side. I never get ill.”
Her post quickly attracted supportive responses from listeners who had heard how unwell she sounded on air.
One wrote: “Wishing you well, you sounded absolutely ill this morning.”
Another commented: “Aww Kate, I heard you yesterday morning, you sounded awful, I hope you’re feeling a little better today.”
A third listener agreed that leaving the studio had been the right decision.
“Good decision to go home, I felt for you listening yesterday morning from six o’clock, love the show,” they said.
Another added: “Aw, you did sound proper poorly this morning. Sound decision to head home and take cover under the duvet. Get better soon!”
Kate’s Broadcasting Career
Kate first became widely known after appearing on Gogglebox with her husband in 2014.
She remained on the Channel 4 programme for five series before leaving to focus on other television work and family life.
She later joined BBC Radio 2 in 2017 and has since become a regular presence on the station.
For now, however, Kate appears to be taking the advice of her colleagues and listeners by stepping away from the microphone and giving herself time to recover.
