HEARTBROKEN: Prince Harry left Queen Elizabeth II ‘hurt beyond belief’ with ‘unforgivable’ act
Prince William reportedly confronted Prince Harry over what he regarded as “unforgivable behaviour” towards the late Queen Elizabeth II as fresh claims emerge about the brothers’ long-running feud.
Harry and Meghan Markle may have returned to Britain with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but reports suggest tensions with the Prince of Wales remain unresolved.
While Harry is said to have made progress in rebuilding his relationship with King Charles, William is reportedly far less willing to move past events that took place before and after the Sussexes’ royal wedding in 2018.
One alleged incident involving the late Queen is said to have particularly angered him.
Queen Reportedly Left ‘Hurt Beyond Belief’
Royal author Sally Bedell Smith previously cited Lady Elizabeth Anson, a cousin and trusted confidante of Queen Elizabeth II, when describing a difficult exchange involving Harry ahead of his wedding to Meghan.
According to the account, Harry was “rude to her for ten minutes” during a disagreement over arrangements for the ceremony.
The dispute reportedly centred on Harry wanting the Archbishop of Canterbury to officiate rather than the Dean of Windsor, as royal tradition would normally dictate.
Lady Elizabeth was quoted as saying the encounter left the Queen “hurt beyond belief”.
The claims concern a private conversation and were relayed through royal sources rather than publicly confirmed by Harry or the late Queen.
William Allegedly Stepped In
In his biography William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, royal editor Russell Myers described how William reportedly reacted after learning what had happened.
According to the book, the Prince of Wales regarded his brother’s conduct as “unforgivable”.
William was also said to have become increasingly concerned about tensions surrounding royal staff as preparations for Harry and Meghan’s wedding intensified.
Myers claimed William apologised on Harry’s behalf on more than one occasion as pressure mounted behind palace doors.
A source quoted in the book described two very different working cultures emerging within the royal household.
“In one camp you had the people who cared, wanted those working in the household to enjoy themselves while working there, and on the other side it was something different every day,” the insider alleged.
“Nothing was ever good enough, there were constant complaints. It was exhausting.”
Staff Tensions Reportedly Deepened Royal Rift
William and Kate were said to have worked hard to create a positive atmosphere for their staff, but sources claimed that environment became increasingly strained during the period surrounding Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
In July 2018, two months after the ceremony, William and Kate reportedly invited Harry and Meghan to their home in an effort to discuss concerns about staff treatment.
According to the source, tensions had reached a point where some employees were taking time off because of stress or were reluctant to work on engagements involving the Sussexes.
One insider claimed: “It had reached an intolerable situation for so many of them.”
The source alleged that efforts were made to address the problems but said “nothing was ever good enough”.
Harry has strongly rejected accusations that Meghan bullied palace staff.
In his memoir, he defended his wife and said he had never heard her speak badly to or about anyone.
“On the contrary, I watched her redouble her efforts to spread kindness,” Harry wrote.
William and Harry Still Reportedly Divided
The brothers’ relationship is said to remain one of the biggest unresolved issues following Harry and Meghan’s return to Britain.
Harry has reportedly rebuilt some contact with Charles, who is said to have welcomed the opportunity to reconnect with Archie and Lilibet.
William, however, is reportedly determined to avoid becoming drawn into renewed “drama” surrounding the Sussexes.
He and Charles are also said to agree that Harry cannot return to a “half in, half out” arrangement in which he combines private commercial work with an official royal role.
The source suggests William’s frustrations stretch back years, with the alleged confrontation over Harry’s treatment of the late Queen forming part of a much wider breakdown between the brothers.
Harry has disputed several accounts of palace life and defended Meghan’s treatment of staff, meaning many of the claims surrounding that period remain contested.
But according to the latest account, William viewed the reported incident involving their grandmother as particularly serious — and one he was not prepared to ignore.
