BBC star Naga Munchetty was caught taking the “breakfast” part of BBC Breakfast very literally in a live gaffe this morning.
The news presenter was joined by co-host Charlie Stayt on the show, with the duo off-camera during a segment about rising council tax hosted by Peter Ruddick. Naga, 50, didn’t seem prepared for the camera to turn back on her and Charlie so soon, and accidentally gave a glimpse of what the presenters get up to during their brief moments off-air.
As the camera panned back to the sofa, Charlie was turned towards the screen and seemed focused on the presentation about council tax. Naga, meanwhile, had something else to focus on. The journalist was caught holding a white box of takeaway food, which she seemed to have picked up from its resting place on the sofa next to her. She quickly grabbed her breakfast box and hid it from view, leaning down as she placed it on the floor by her feet – where it was conveniently hidden by the huge desk in front of her.

BBC Breakfast had another food-related blunder back in January, after Naga called out an embarrassing error as the show transitioned over to Saturday Kitchen. In the hilarious moment host Matt Tebbutt was set to preview his show’s lineup, but a camera mishap led to an accidental reveal of one of the day’s guests.
Naga sharply commented: “What you think, Helen and your guests… Is that Emilia Fox?” Matt replied: “Oh don’t give it away. Do you know how this works?” Naga hit back: “Well I do but did your director know how it works? Because they cut to a three shot. Your director did cut to a three shot and we did see Emilia, while they were laughing at you and not with you.”
Laughter filled the studio as Matt quipped: “Well thank you. Should I even announce that guest now that it’s spoiled?” Turning to his guest, he then jokingly announced: “Our special guest today is the wonderful Emilia Fox. Yeah, thank you what a surprise that was.”
While Naga has been caught in some inevitable live TV errors, she’s usually flawless at the job after joining BBC Breakfast over 10 years ago in 2014. Away from the show, she’s given a few insights into her life with husband James Haggar, whom she married in 2007.
The star has also opened up about her taxing health battle after revealing her diagnosis with adenomyosis in 2023 – a painful condition causing atypical cell growth in the uterus. In an interview with The Times, Naga recounted the excruciating symptoms that were initially dismissed as just a “normal period.” Naga shared that her pain once got so unbearable that she had to call an ambulance, and was hospitalised with James looking after her.
