It looks like the Washington Commanders have zero plans to change their nickname again.
After the Josh Harris ownership group took over the Washington franchise from Dan Snyder in 2023, there was plenty of speculation about whether they might consider changing the team’s name back to the “Redskins” name.
The “Commanders” name was introduced in 2022 after the franchise moved away from the “Redskins” name in 2020 amid growing pressure from the public and the league.
During the interim, the team was simply known as the “Washington Football Team” before it changed its name to the Commanders.
Now that the new name has stuck, many have called for them to go back to the ‘Redskins’ nickname.
Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris made it clear this week that the team will not be changing the name.
“Yes. I think it’s now being embraced by our team, by our culture, by our coaching staff. We’re going with that,” Harris said, according to Pro Football Talk.

Here is how NFL fans reacted:
“Bring the logo back, at least. The W is atrocious,” one fan stated.
“Crazy how at one time, it was an outrage and criticism for being called the Redskins and how it was disrespectful to Native Americans.,” another fan stated.
“Bad move. Should have gone with ‘Redtails’ as the best compromise. Could have even used ‘Warriors’. At worse they should have changed the name to ‘Commandos,’ a third fan added.
“They’ll always be the Redskins,” one fan boldly said of the franchise to remain as the Washington Commanders.
“Huge, colossal mistake!” another fan commented.
“Big L…always redskins to me,” one final fan stated.
The Washington Commanders Have A Good Thing Going
Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris has confirmed that the NFL team will not be changing back to the Redskins, and that is not a bad thing.
Costly mistakes ended the Commanders’ Super Bowl dreams, but the team is on the right track, as we are only a short time away from the Daniel Snyder era.
Not changing the game means the franchise can continue heading into this new era of Washington football.
“How Did We Miss This?”: Social Media Is Freaking Out Over Newly Surfaced Footage Of Rapper Wale Trying To Fight Eagles Fans At NFC Championship Game

A video of rapper Wale getting into it with Eagles fans after Sunday’s NFC Championship Game has surfaced online following Philly’s win over the Commanders at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Eagles are Super Bowl-bound in the wake of their blowout win. Wale, a known Commanders fan, was obviously unhappy with the result. It appears his frustrations were compounded by some form of taunting while at the stadium, as he was ready to throw hands.
Fortunately, the confrontation didn’t escalate past words as other fans got between the parties before security intervened.
The most shocking thing about all of this is it took several days before anyone even knew about this.
“How come no one said Wale was trying to fight Eagles fans at the game??? How was this missed all week?” an X user shared as the caption to the clip shown below.

“Damn Wale lol,” said a second.
“Your man a 5’6” coward. Whole city had his back and he still running away from @Wale (who was by himself),” someone else observed.
“Wale outside outside,” a comment read.
Wale Wanted The Eagles Investigated Last Year
There’s clearly no love lost between Wale and the Eagles. The rapper called on the NFL to investigate his team’s NFC East rivals after they traded for wide receiver Jahan Dotson last year, claiming they needed to be hit with a RICO charge.
He had every right to be suspicious, given that division rivals don’t typically engage in trades. But it’s not as if the Commanders weren’t involved, too.
While his disappointment is understandable, Wale should be pleased with what Washington accomplished this season. Next season could be even better.
