Michael Strahan is one of the most lovable anchors around. The former NFL defensive end became a daytime television staple as co-host of Live! With Kelly and Michael. He’s since moved on to co-anchoring Good Morning America and providing sports commentary for FOX. Over the past few years, Strahan’s warm presence has almost become omnipresent on the airwaves.
The New York Giant-turned-newsman has managed to keep his private life relatively private, which is no small feat when you’re at his level of fame. When did Michael Strahan first get married?
Strahan married his first wife, interior designer Wanda Hutchins, in 1992 after the birth of their first daughter, Tanita.
Strahan met Hutchins when he was 17 years old and living in Germany, where his father was stationed. He was 20 years old when they tied the knot, and he divided his time between Germany and Texas, where he played football for Texas Southern University.
In 1993, the New York Giants drafted Strahan. Later that year, he and Hutchins welcomed son Michael Strahan Jr.
“Having my two oldest kids at such a young age taught me about the ultimate responsibility of providing for your family,” Strahan told Parade in a 2019 interview. “It made me more mature and also made me think through my decisions fully.”

When did Michael Strahan and Wanda Hutchins divorce?
Strahan and Hutchins called time on their marriage in 1996 after four years of marriage but have remained close friends. Tanita and Michael Jr. stayed in Germany with Hutchins after she and Strahan separated, but they all remain close.
“I think a lot of times when you split, people assume that the mother is supposed to take responsibility for the kids. But from day one, it was very important for me to be active, to be a part of their life,” Strahan explained to People in 2016. “I was constantly on planes and phones. And it’s very hard–of course, it’s hard with them being in Germany. But one thing I learned is, you make time for what you want to make time for.”
Tanita and Michael Jr. eventually went to high school in Houston, Texas, Strahan’s hometown.
When did Michael Strahan marry his second wife?
Strahan married his second wife, Jean Muggli, in 1999 after meeting in a salon. They share twin daughters Isabella and Sophia, born in 2004.
In fall of 2023, Strahan took leave from GMA for several weeks for what he then described as “a personal family matter.” Later he disclosed that daughter Isabella had been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. After undergoing multiple brain surgeries and chemotherapy, Isabella was officially declared cancer-free in July 2024. She will be featured alongside her father in an ABC special called Life Interrupted: Isabella Strahan’s Fight Against Cancer, premiering in February 2025.

When did Michael Strahan get divorced from Jean Muggli?

Strahan filed for divorce from Muggli just months after their twins were born in 2004. The divorce was finalized in 2006, and the split was rather acrimonious.
Strahan accused Muggli of emotionally and physically abusing their daughters, an allegation she denied. After he filed for divorce, Muggli accused Strahan of domestic violence after an argument over money, but a judge dismissed her claims, which Strahan himself denied.
He said in a statement at the time, “It’s unfortunate that some marriages don’t always work out for both parties, but that’s a painful reality of the times we live in. I love my children with all my heart and will continue to be the father figure that I had growing up. I owe it to my daughters to end my marriage respectfully and with dignity.”
He continued, “I would never physically or psychologically harm any of my loved ones, especially my wife. That’s simply not the man I am. I will continue to respect Jean’s privacy and not contribute to a public spectacle of an extremely private matter.”
Strahan and Muggli battled over custody of their daughters until they settled in November 2020.

Michael Strahan was engaged to Nicole Murphy
In 2007, Strahan began dating model Nicole Murphy (ex-wife of comedian and actor Eddie Murphy). Nicole and Strahan got engaged in 2009, but didn’t make it down the aisle, splitting in 2014 after reportedly having difficulty balancing bicoastal life (she was based in Los Angeles, while he lived in New York City). Strahan’s rep told People at the time, “They love each other very much, but with the distance and work schedule it has been hard to maintain the relationship.”

Strahan has been in a relationship with Kayla Quick since 2015. Quick is the co-founder and CEO of FIZZNESS, a wellness company. For the most part, the pair keep their relationship out of the spotlight. In October 2024, the rarely-seen Quick made an appearance in Strahan’s Instagram reel in honor of his twin daughters’ birthday.
