Lorraine Kelly stirs audience debate with on-air emotions – Should she carry on or Quit?

‘Emotional’ Lorraine Kelly’s mask slips as she struggles on air after brutal ITV slot axe
Lorraine Kelly was dealt a devastating blow after it was announced her self-titled programme is being cut by 30 minutes.
Lorraine returns to air after news of schedule changes
Lorraine Kelly is “putting on a brave face” following news that her ITV breakfast programme is being cut by 30 minutes. From January 2026, Good Morning Britain will be extended by 30 minutes from 6:00am to 9:30am. This means Lorraine, 65, no longer has her usual one-hour slot at 9:00am. Instead, her self-titled show will run for just half an hour from 09:30am to 10:00am on a seasonal basis for 30 weeks of the year.
The Scottish presenter made no mention of the schedule change as she returned to screens on Wednesday (May 21), just one day after the news was announced. But the brutal blow has left the TV host doing everything to hold herself together and maintain her composure, claims body language expert Dr. Beth Dawson. She noted that Lorraine’s presenting style is known for its “warmth and authenticity” and is characterised by “open gestures, consistent eye contact, and expressive facial expressions”.

The body language expert also recognised that Lorraine usually talks “quite quickly and animatedly” in order to create a genuine sense of approachability and help her guests feel at ease in the studio.
But Lorraine didn’t appear to display her usual behaviour during today’s show as Dr. Beth explained: “After the news has broken about the reduced hours, we can see a slowing down of her usual pace when speaking.
“While it’s unlikely that she was entirely blindsided by the news, her body language suggests she is processing something emotionally significant. This is a shift from her baseline.”
The expert continued: “She is more subdued and speaking more slowly which is a key indicator of the presence of cognitive load. This is the mental effort involved in managing thoughts and emotions simultaneously, showing that she is indeed affected by the news.”

Dr. Beth recognised a “telling” change in the presenter’s posture, adding: “Her shoulders appear slightly raised, which often signals tension or a subconscious attempt to self-protect. She also appears less relaxed overall, with a noticeable drop in her usual spontaneity and sparkle.”
Lorraine was also clasping her hands together, which Dr. Beth revealed is a way to manage discomfort.
“When someone is feeling emotional or tense but wants to maintain composure, they may clasp their hands to literally ‘hold themselves together’. It’s a subtle cue that someone is processing something they don’t necessarily want to express outwardly,” she said.
Dr. Beth concluded: “This contrast with her typical presentation gives us valuable insight into her emotional state – she is trying to maintain composure, a behaviour often summarised as ‘putting on a brave face’.
