While Craig Melvin filled in for her during the franchise’s main show, it was Jenna’s sister, Barbara Bush, who replaced Hoda during the fourth hour Today series.
She had been popping up on the morning show franchise multiple times recently to help promote her and Jenna’s new children’s book, Love Comes First.
Most of her appearances were just for one-off segments, but on Thursday she was a full-on guest co-host with Jenna amid Hoda’s absence.
The duo discussed a slew of topics throughout the broadcast, including older names – like Barbara – making a comeback and also the pair’s childhood crushes.
Jenna teased that Barbara’s first crush was Jared Leto after seeing him play Jordan Catalano on My So-Called Life character.
The two bantered about loving the show, especially the “classic episode” of Jordan and Claire Danes’ Angela making out in a boiler room.
Barbara then guessed that Michael Bolton was Jenna’s first crush, and while she admitted to listening to him often, she didn’t think he was really her first celebrity love.
“I think you were into him,” Barbara insisted.
After a clip from their episode was shared on social media, fans began begging to see more of them together on TV.
One enthusiastic fan demanded: “You two need your own show!!!!!”
A second agreed with that idea, writing: “Yes I love their banter!”
“These sisters are great together,” said a third fan.
A fourth gushed: “You two together are so fun to watch!”
Other fans loved how “funny and great” the two are together on the Today show and insisted they “need more Barbara.”
The co-hosting pair-up came just two days after the release of the sisters’ latest book, which was inspired by their own families.
The book is described as “a joyful celebration of growing families,” according to Amazon.
The synopsis read: “As two sisters watch their friends’ families grow, they wish on a star for a sibling of their own…and a younger brother and a baby cousin arrive!
“The new family members aren’t exactly what the sisters expected, but with time and patience, the group soon becomes fabulously four—and lets their imaginations soar!
“Together they can be anything, and no matter what, they will always remember that love comes first.”
