Eamonn Holmes has been notably absent from his GB News TV show since last week, shortly after being accused of ‘falling asleep’ live on air. This comes as Eamonn opens up about his ‘horrendous’ health battle.

The TV presenter usually hosts a breakfast show with Ellie Costello Monday through Wednesday. But he has not been seen on the show since last Wednesday (11 March). Viewers feared the presenter had been “axed” after he was accused of “falling asleep” and “slurring his words” whilst on air.

One viewer said: “It looks like Eamonn Holmes has been axed by GBNEWS for falling asleep live on air while presenting the breakfast show. He has been replaced. This is brutal, but its showbiz baby. No excuse falling asleep on set. Unprofessional.” Another asked: “Where have you been Eamonn?”

The star had sparked concern during his last broadcast as he appeared to fall asleep during an interview with Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Darren Jones MP. He was seen fiddling with his microphone before he seemed to zone out and close his eyes momentarily before lifting his head and focusing on his microphone again.

At the time, a source told The Sun : “It hasn’t gone unnoticed that Eamonn has been struggling a lot more lately. Today he was falling asleep on air and slurring his words. There were lots of messages coming in about it.”

Fans shared their concern for Eamonn online. One wrote: “Please help Eamonn Holmes. He’s obviously struggling, falling asleep this morning. Slurring his words. The guy needs medical assistance!!”

Another said: “Why is Eamonn Holmes basically falling asleep on air? He looks either off his face or just so tired he can’t stay awake!” And a third added: ““Concerned Eamonn Holmes seems more slurry than usual.”

The star has been battling chronic pain for years and recently opened up about how hard his health issues have been. He revealed that he cannot get up from his wheelchair without carers after receiving a diagnosis of a dislocated pelvis and three slipped discs. He underwent surgery to repair the damage but fell down the stairs and fractured his shoulder whilst recovering.

Whilst speaking on the Session 7 podcast, he said: “I’m sick. I’m in a wheelchair. That’s been horrendous to deal with for two years. Certainly I don’t think TV wants to know you when, I mean there’s nothing you and I are talking and no one can there’s anything wrong but I can’t get up.”

He admitted to needing daily care but insisted that once he is sat in his wheelchair, he is still able to “do everything”. Eamonn acknowledged that the wider world struggles to “deal with” people with disabilities, particularly in regards to providing the appropriate accommodations.
