The Princess of Wales is set to step out for a major appearance in London on Thursday, September 4. As the patron of the Natural History Museum, Kate – alongside Prince William – will attend the museum’s newly transformed gardens and meet children and young people taking part in learning programmes which see them connecting with nature and boosting biodiversity in urban areas.
The royal couple will be shown how cutting-edge technology is being used around the garden to inform the Museum’s conservation and research biodiversity projects. The gardens – which opened in July 2024 – and National Education Nature Park programme are part of the Natural History Museum’s ambitious Urban Nature Movement, an initiative which aims to help people feel more connected to nature, more confident in their ability to protect it and more invested in a greener future. Kate and William, both 43, will be joined by school children from Lewisham who are taking part in a pond dipping session, before meeting students from Manchester who have been creating new habitats on their school grounds through the National Education Nature Park programme.

The trailblazing education programme, which is led by the Museum working with the RHS and commissioned by the Department for Education, has seen more than 7,500 schools, colleges and nurseries getting involved so far.
It continues to inspire action in young people by developing their connection with nature as they transform the ‘grey’ areas of their school grounds into nature-rich spaces – boosting biodiversity, green skills and wellbeing.
Kate spent a lot of time at the museum in 2021 during the early stages of development for the Urban Nature Project.
She was able to hear, during these previous visits, all about how work was underway to transform the Natural History Museum gardens into a cutting-edge research centre and outdoor classrooms.
