BREAKING NEWS: Princess Kate returns to c@ncer hospital where she was treated for key reason
Princess Kate has made an emotional return to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she received cancer treatment, to see how money raised through her Three Peaks Challenge will help support patients during and after treatment.
The Princess of Wales visited the hospital on Friday morning, September 11, meeting patients and staff while learning more about plans for a new holistic care centre.
The engagement carried particular personal significance for Kate, who underwent six months of preventative chemotherapy at the Royal Marsden after receiving a cancer diagnosis in February 2024.
Since completing treatment, the Princess has returned to the hospital several times to speak with patients and medical teams and learn more about the support offered at the world-renowned facility.
During her latest visit, Kate spoke openly about the care she received and explained why raising money for the hospital had become so important to her.
“This was my small way of being able to give back and say thank you to you,” she said.
“I had incredible care here and support from a huge team and I’m really really grateful on a personal level.”

Kate Sees Where Three Peaks Funds Will Go
The visit followed Kate’s Three Peaks Challenge in July, when she climbed Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales within 24 hours.
The achievement is believed to have been a royal first.
Kate previously described the challenge as an opportunity to look at “life beyond diagnosis” while also giving something back to those who had supported her through treatment.
Money raised through the challenge is now expected to help fund a new holistic care centre at the Royal Marsden.
During Friday’s engagement, the Princess learned more about how the money will be used to provide support both during cancer treatment and throughout recovery.
Kate stressed that clinical care represented only one part of her own experience.
She spoke about the importance of wider support, including nutrition, nature and therapies designed to help patients cope with the physical and emotional effects of treatment.
“The holistic care, the treatments and therapeutic support on the outside is so important,” she said.
“It makes a big difference.”
Kate went on to explain that having the right support around a patient can become particularly important during difficult periods of medical treatment.
She highlighted the impact of good nutrition, access to nature and continued support from those around a patient.
Princess Reflects on Her Own Treatment
Kate said those additional forms of care had personally helped her during her recovery.
“It made a big difference to me and it made a huge difference to lots of patients who I’ve spoken to,” she said.
Her comments offered another rare insight into her experience since announcing in March 2024 that she was undergoing cancer treatment.
The Princess has gradually returned to public engagements while continuing to use her platform to highlight issues surrounding treatment, recovery and longer-term wellbeing.
Her connection with the Royal Marsden also became official in 2025 when she was named joint patron of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust alongside Prince William.
The role followed her own treatment journey and strengthened an already deeply personal relationship with the hospital.
Friday’s appearance allowed Kate to see first-hand how the funds she helped raise could now be transformed into practical support for other patients.
Rather than focusing solely on medical procedures, the proposed centre is intended to offer a broader approach to wellbeing and recovery.
For Kate, that approach reflects something she has repeatedly emphasised since completing treatment: recovery does not necessarily end when hospital appointments finish.
Her return to the Royal Marsden therefore carried a message that went beyond fundraising.
It was a chance to thank the people who cared for her, reconnect with patients and staff, and help ensure others facing similar experiences have access to support through treatment and into recovery.
For the Princess of Wales, the visit brought her back to one of the most difficult chapters of her life — but this time, with the opportunity to give something back.
