Charley has now grown close to another actress – and why Sheridan is ‘no longer her cheerleader’

THEIR surprising friendship was the talk of the town last year – as they shacked up together, went on exotic holidays and even got a dog.

But after quietly unfollowing each other, I can now reveal the latest on Sheridan Smith and Charley Webb’s friendship, with insiders telling me what’s really gone on behind closed doors in a brutal twist in their relationship.

Just as quickly as it started, the mutual love in has come to a rather abrupt and quiet end, with insiders revealing they are no longer even speaking.

Sources close to the pals have said there was a huge shift in their relationship earlier this year, and Sheridan’s decision to move away led to them taking different paths.

My insider told me: “Charley was living with Sheridan after her split from Matthew Wolfenden. It was no secret that they had a very intense and fulfilling relationship, but then Sheridan decided to move house and Charley wasn’t really part of those plans.

“Charley grew really close to another actress – Wallis Day – at around the same time and they ended up drifting apart.

“It came as a real shock to everyone because Sheridan and Charley were inseparable at one time, even calling each other ‘bae’.”

Charley, 37, was an integral part of Sheridan’s life, often helping out when she was away working.

But a few months ago Sheridan, 44, relocated to Doncaster with her son Billy, five, who she shares with ex-fiance Jamie Horn,  after spending time filming her current series  I Fought The Law there – and Charley didn’t go with her.

Sheridan admitted: “I’ve loved filming up here so much, I’ve moved up north.

“I moved back after filming this, I loved it – I’m in Doncaster, not quite Newcastle, but I’m back up this way.”

Charley meanwhile is still said to be spending lots of time in London, when she’s not in Yorkshire with her children, who she shares with her former partner of 15 years.

The insider continued: “Charley is still auditioning for acting work so is mostly in London.

Sheridan and Charley even got a dog together
“She spends lots of her time now with Wallis – who is also an actor – and they often enjoy nights out at private members’ clubs in the city.

“It’s quite a stark contrast to Sheridan’s life now, she’s always so busy with work and raising her son. She just has a quiet life with her little family and is really happy up north.”

Pals close to the pair have also questioned where their Pomeranian dog has gone, which Sheridan and Charley are said to have got together.

They added: “The dog was always with Charley and also Sheridan – but no one has seen it for ages, they think he’s up in Doncaster with Sheridan.”

And like any modern friendship – the pair have appeared to confirm it’s over by unfollowing each other on social media.

Charley initially sought refuge with Sheridan amid her split from her soap star hubby Matthew in 2023, who she shares sons Buster, 15,  Bowie, 11, and Ace, 7, with.

Matthew previously revealed the split had come out of the blue shortly after Charley headed off on her first theatre tour after leaving Emmerdale.

“I didn’t expect it at all, it was a big shock,” he shared.  “Separation is very difficult when you’ve spent 15 years together, your lives together and everything you own is together – just sorting out.”

At the start of the year Charley and Matthew put their £900k house on the market and she started spending even more time with Sheridan.

The two even spent Christmas together, which Charley called her “favourite Christmas yet”, sharing joyful snaps of their celebrations.

But this Christmas things look set to be rather different – cosy trips out with Sheridan and the kids certainly won’t be on the agenda.

Co-parenting with Matthew, who is loved-up with new girlfriend Heather Scott-Martin, means Charley is not always guaranteed to have the boys over the festive period.

The insider added: “It’s definitely been a period of transition for Charley. Her family and brother (Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas) have been really supportive of her and she’s got some exciting auditions on the horizon. Everyone is saying the best is yet to come for her.

“She just won’t have Sheridan as her cheerleader anymore.”

But judging by her legion of fans online, Charley has enough support to ensure whatever she does next will be a huge hit.
