Lorraine Kelly Confirms Exact ITV Return Date After Lengthy Break and Shares Joyful Family Update
Lorraine Kelly has confirmed exactly when she will return to ITV after spending weeks away from her morning programme.
The 66-year-old presenter revealed that she will be back on air on Monday, September 7, during an appearance on the first episode of the new series of James Martin’s Saturday Morning.
Lorraine signed off from her daytime show on July 3, telling viewers that she would be “away for a wee while” and would miss them before promising to return “very, very soon”.
Her extended absence followed major changes to ITV’s daytime schedule, which reduced Lorraine to a seasonal run of 30 weeks a year. The programme has also been shortened from one hour to 30 minutes.
However, Lorraine told James that the lengthy break had given her a precious opportunity to spend more time with her family and celebrate an important personal milestone.
Lorraine reveals September comeback
James raised the subject of Lorraine’s television return during their conversation.
“Tell me about your new series. You’re back on our screens in the morning,” he said.
Lorraine responded: “Yes, I’m back on the 7th of September after a big break, which has been amazing. I’ve spent lots of time with my granddaughter.”
Her return will place the familiar presenter back at the centre of ITV’s morning schedule after viewers spent much of the summer without her programme.
When Lorraine is not airing under the revised timetable, Good Morning Britain occupies an extended morning slot.
Despite the reduction in episodes and running time, Lorraine remains at the helm of the show she has fronted for years.
Daughter Rosie’s Scottish wedding
Lorraine also shared her happiness after her daughter Rosie married Steve White in Scotland in July.
The wedding took place at the Cromlix Hotel near Dunblane, providing the presenter with one of the most memorable moments of her time away from television.
“My daughter Rosie got married, which was wonderful,” Lorraine said.
“She got married in Scotland, just outside of Dunblane, and it was beautiful. We had a wonderful, wonderful time, so I feel very lucky.”
Lorraine has also been enjoying more time with Rosie’s young daughter, Billie.
Becoming a grandmother made the pause from her demanding morning television schedule particularly meaningful, giving her a chance to be present for family moments that might otherwise have competed with work commitments.
The presenter became reflective while discussing the balance between her successful television career and her personal life.
‘Family and friends are most important’
James noted that Lorraine had always placed considerable value on family traditions.
“You’ve always kept family tradition, haven’t you?” he asked.
Lorraine agreed, explaining that even a long-running television career could not replace the people closest to her.
“Yes, because a job is great, but it’s just a job at the end of the day,” she said. “Your family and friends are the most important thing.”
Her comments echoed previous remarks about how the revised ITV schedule had given her more time and a healthier balance away from the studio.
Lorraine has been a fixture of ITV mornings for decades, making her lengthy summer absence particularly noticeable to regular viewers.
Her reduced annual schedule means audiences will see less of the presenter than in previous years, but it also allows her to enjoy extended periods with her family.
After a summer filled with her daughter’s wedding and valuable time with granddaughter Billie, Lorraine is now preparing to return to work feeling grateful for the break.
