SAD NEWS: Coronation Street star rushed to hospital after being bitten by monkey
The actor’s holiday turned into a nightmare after being brutally attacked by an animal.

A Coronation Street star’s dream holiday away in Egypt turned into chaos after being rushed to the hospital due to a major rabies scare. The actor Liam Scholes, who famously played Eli Higginson, was sightseeing when he was brutally bitten by a monkey, forcing him to immediately seek medical attention. The 23-year-old took to Instagram and shared a concerning photo on his story of him lying in a hospital bed, looking a little worse for wear.
Liam captioned it: “When you nearly get killed by a monkey in the desert…game is over, wait for the reel guys…just you wait.” He later uploaded a collage of images of himself and the fearless animal, taken moments before the incident. Liam poked fun by adding that the score was currently “Monkey: 1; Liam: 0.” The Waterloo Road star opened up about the attack and revealed: “I was in a desert in Egypt, and some bloke said you can pay an extra, like, two English pounds to see their Zoo, and I thought: ‘What a great idea.'”

Talking to The Sun, he added: “So I gave him two quid, and I went in, and then he had this monkey on a lead.
“And then the monkey jumps onto my shoulder and he was trying to pull the monkey off…it kind of just dug itself into my shoulder, and then my shoulder went from being normal to, like, yellow, but, like, kind of gammy, pus-y way, it was disgusting.”
Liam revealed that he told the tour guide that he needed to get to a hospital, but was told that he’d only call a driver if he bought the resort’s photo package.
“So I had to pay 60 quid for the photos of me on a camel, and there wasn’t a photo with me and a monkey, so I’m devastated. I’m fine, though. I had to have rabies shots, and that was, like, two months, it took,” he added to the publication.

Liam starred in the ITV soap as Eli, a vicious bully and friend of Corey Brent (played by Maximus Evans), who joined Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson) to attack Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) and Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher), which eventually led to Seb’s death.
The gut-wrenching storyline also saw Corey and his father, Stefan (Paul Opacic), go to great lengths to ensure he didn’t get sent down for the crime, while Eli tried to make sure Kelly took the blame.
However, in true Corrie form, the truth came out in the end. The attack storyline, which aired in 2021, was directly inspired by the real-life 2007 murder of Sophie Lancaster, who was killed by a gang of youths because of the way she looked.
Sophie’s mother, Sylvia Lancaster, worked with the team at Corrie for the preparation of the tragic plot.
