Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK has prompted weeks of speculation, with a royal commentator now suggesting the move could be connected to the Duke’s reported plans for a documentary about Princess Diana.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned to Britain last month with their children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, and are understood to be staying in the Cotswolds for an extended period.
Both children have reportedly been enrolled in schools, while Harry has already resumed a visible public schedule.
In recent weeks, he has attended the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards and the WellChild Awards, while Meghan has largely remained out of the spotlight.
Questions have continued, however, over why the couple chose to base themselves in Britain again after spending six years in California.
Fresh Theory Over Sussexes’ UK Return
The latest speculation centres on reports that Harry is considering a personal documentary about Diana to mark the 30th anniversary of her death.
TalkTV presenter Peter Cardwell discussed the idea with Mail on Sunday editor-at-large Charlotte Griffiths, who suggested the project could help explain Harry’s renewed presence in Britain.
Peter asked: “What do you make of this? Prince Harry making this documentary? Will Netflix finally get their monies worth?”
Charlotte replied that rumours surrounding such a project had been circulating for months.
“The rumour has been doing the rounds for months,” she said.
She also suggested that when Harry and Meghan publicly acknowledge they are “in talks” over something, the plans are often further along than they initially appear.
That remains her interpretation rather than confirmation from the Sussexes.
‘It Does Explain’ Why They Returned, Commentator Claims
Charlotte then went further, arguing that a Diana documentary would provide a possible explanation for why the family had returned to the UK.
“It does explain, at long last, why they have come over to the UK,” she said.
“Because we’ve all been wondering it can’t just be about the education of their kids. It can’t just be the king.”
She added: “There’s always something else with the Sussexes.”
Her remarks reflect her opinion and there has been no official statement from Harry or Meghan saying that a documentary is the reason behind their move.
The couple’s reported reasons for returning have included their children’s education, family considerations and Harry’s ongoing charitable work.
Harry Reportedly Contacts Diana’s Friends and Family
Reports published on September 21 suggested Harry has been speaking with people who knew his mother about possible projects to mark the anniversary.
People and The Telegraph, citing unnamed sources, reported that a documentary was among several ideas being considered.
Harry is also said to have contacted members of Diana’s family and some of her close friends.
Earl Spencer, Diana’s younger brother, has been named among those reportedly approached.
No documentary has yet been officially announced.
Sources have instead described Harry as still considering the most meaningful way to honour his mother’s legacy.
Netflix Could Be Involved
Netflix has naturally been linked to the potential project because of Harry and Meghan’s existing relationship with the streaming platform.
Reports have suggested that a documentary could ultimately be produced through the Sussexes’ production operation and offered to Netflix.
However, no deal has been publicly confirmed in relation to a new Diana film.
The speculation comes at a time when interest in Diana’s life has intensified again following the publication of Earl Spencer’s memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.
The book has generated major headlines because of claims involving King Charles and the period surrounding Diana’s death.
Meghan Acting Rumour Shut Down
There had also been speculation that Meghan could use the couple’s return to Britain to make a surprise television appearance.
Reports suggested she might feature in Netflix drama The Gentlemen, but star Theo James later dismissed the idea.
That denial has left Harry’s reported Diana project as one of the more prominent theories surrounding the Sussexes’ current plans in Britain.
For now, though, the real reason behind the move remains a matter of speculation.
Harry is reportedly exploring ways to mark the 30th anniversary of his mother’s death, and a documentary is one possibility.
