BBC Breakfast star loses it on camera after humiliating Invictus Games blunder

BBC Breakfast viewers were left cringing after its reporter John Maguire suffered an awkward live TV moment while covering an Invictus Games event. The broadcaster was reporting live from the sporting competition to celebrate one year until the games take place. He decided to try his hand at one of the activities himself, stepping up to a shooting range in front of the cameras.
However, the demonstration didn’t quite go to plan. As presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt watched back in the studio, Maguire failed to hit the target with every attempt, prompting an uncomfortable moment before the report continued.

The light-hearted segment came as BBC News covered the build-up to the Invictus Games, the international sporting event founded by Prince Harry for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans.
Despite the mishap, Maguire tried to laugh off the challenge as coverage moved on to highlight competitors preparing for the Games. However, he did quip that the technology must be faulty.
The Invictus Games are set to get underway in Birmingham next year, with Prince Harry expected to attend a series of promotional events in the UK ahead of the tournament today.

Luckily, John got a chance to redeem himself later on in the segment after Charlie insisted he try again to hit the target, which he eventually did.
During Thursday’s Daily Expresso podcast, host JJ Anisiobi said a source has revealed the event “could get cancelled”. He explained: “Invictus is a great idea, and it started off really well. I’ll start with this… it used to be sponsorship was the main way it was funded. In recent years, and for the Birmingham games, it’s now majority by whichever country is hosting the games.”
He continued: “The UK has underwritten £26m for next year’s Invictus Games. But they will only release that money if Invictus raise enough money for them to go ahead. Currently, the UK government has given them approximately £3m of that underwritten £26m, which means Invictus have got to raise a lot of money between now and next year for the games to ahead in its entirety.
“And it doesn’t seem to be going too well. Boeing, massive, huge company, not a company short of a few bob, they pulled out… that’s one huge sponsor already out.”
