Martin Lewis’ wife Lara Lewington has shared an emotional health update after undergoing major surgery following a difficult experience with adenomyosis.
The 47-year-old technology journalist revealed that she had a hysterectomy 10 days before posting her update, telling followers that she was recovering well despite the significant operation.
Lara, who married Money Saving Expert founder and ITV presenter Martin in 2009, shared a smiling photograph from her hospital bed while wearing a patient gown, with medical tubes still visible.
Explaining what had led to the procedure, she wrote: “Ten days ago I had a hysterectomy after a rollercoaster with adenomyosis.”
She described adenomyosis as the “lesser known sibling of endometriosis” and highlighted how long conditions of this kind can take to diagnose.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Lara approached her recovery with the same curiosity she brings to her work as a technology journalist specialising in health.
Lara Tracks Recovery Through Health Technology
Lara revealed that she put her health-monitoring devices back on almost immediately after surgery so she could watch how her body responded during recovery.
“As a tech journalist, specialising in health, I put my devices straight back on after surgery, and am watching data on my recovery unfold,” she explained.
The data offered her some fascinating insights.
Lara shared information tracking factors including her heart rate and physical stress, noting how even a short walk could have a noticeable effect while her body was healing.
She said the devices could show when her body appeared to be under strain, but she quickly realised that numbers could only tell part of the story.
“I could see my body’s stress, what a short walk did to my heart rate during recovery, and sometimes when my body showed signs of strain,” she wrote.
However, Lara pointed out that wearable technology could not fully capture symptoms such as pain, exhaustion or simply not feeling ready to do anything beyond resting on the sofa.
Her experience highlighted the difference between what a device might suggest and how a person actually feels during recovery.
‘There Was a Lot a Device Doesn’t Notice’
Lara said that although some of her readings suggested she was physically ready for more activity, her own body was sending a different message.
She described dealing with pain and tiredness while feeling unable to do much beyond resting.
For someone accustomed to analysing health data professionally, the experience appeared to provide a very personal lesson about the limitations of technology.
Lara said she was interested to see how the information changed over the following weeks as her recovery continued.
She also admitted that temporarily losing fitness would be frustrating because walking was currently the main form of exercise available to her.
Nevertheless, she remained positive about the progress she had already made.
Lara Reassures Fans She Is ‘Recovering Really Well’
Towards the end of her update, Lara reassured followers that her recovery was going well.
“I’m recovering really well and excited about new project kicking off next month, more soon!” she wrote.
Her post quickly attracted supportive messages from friends, television personalities and fans.
One follower sent “lots of love” and wished her a recovery that would not be too painful, while another described adenomyosis as a “horrible condition” and sent Lara “big hugs”.
Broadcaster Jeremy Vine also offered his support, writing: “Hope all is well with you, LL.”

Another follower praised Lara for listening to her body and taking the time to rest when needed.
Lara and Martin have been together for 21 years and live in London.
They married in 2009 and share one daughter, Sapphire Susan, who is 14.
For now, Lara appears focused on allowing her body time to recover while continuing to observe the health data that has formed such an important part of her professional work.
And despite undergoing major surgery only days earlier, her latest update ended on an optimistic note — with Lara already looking ahead to a new project beginning next month.
