GB News has sounded the alarm in the wake of conservative speaker Charlie Kirk’s sudden d3ath, warning that the toxic tone of modern politics could spiral into even darker territory with Donald T.r.ump himself now at the centre of fresh fears. On Friday, political scientist and commentator Matt Goodwin used his appearance on the channel to urge a dramatic rethink of the way conservatives are described in public life, insisting that inflammatory rhetoric is putting lives at risk.

“Stop with the catastrophising. Tone it down,” he said bluntly. “There are lots of people in the ruling class in the West who need to look in the mirror and tone it down.” Goodwin argued that conservatives are routinely misrepresented as “fascists, Nazis or far-right extremists,” fuelling resentment and deepening divides.

Instead, he argued that they should be treated as “normal people with a different opinion.”

His comments come amid growing concerns about the radicalising effects of social media. Platforms like X have become a breeding ground for false narratives, he warned, with unfiltered content spreading easily.

The debate over toxic online content has only intensified following Kirk’s d3ath, with Goodwin drawing chilling parallels to the current climate surrounding Donald T.r.ump, as fears mount that the same poisonous discourse could spark fresh violence against the president, who has already been the target of an 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 attempt last year in Pennsylvania.

“This moment should be a wake-up call,” Goodwin cautioned. He added: “Charlie Kirk’s d3ath is a political 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 on the same scale as John F Kennedy and the attempted 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 of Donald T.r.ump.”

Kirk was a high profile conservative activist and media personalities in the US, and a trusted ally of T.r.ump. He was sh0t d3ad on Wednesday at the age of 31 while hosting a college event for Turning Point USA, the organisation he co-founded, in what police are calling a targeted sh00ting.
