The professional dancer notoriously dated his colleague Nadiya Bychkova but moved on nine months after their acrimonious split.

Who is Kai Widdrington?

Kai Widdrington is a professional dancer and choreographer, and a cast member of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

He was born on August 23, 1995 in Southampton, England.

In 2010, Kai won the Junior World Latin American title.

He made it to the final of Britain’s Got Talent’s sixth series in 2012.

He performed professionally on the Irish version of Dancing with the Stars from 2017 to 2020.

In 2021, he joined the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing as a professional dancer.

Kai’s dating history involved two of his Strictly colleagues.

From 2016 to 2021, he was romantically involved with professional dancer Giulia Dotta.

In June 2022, it was reported that he was dating fellow Strictly professional dancer, Nadiya Bychkova.

However, the pair split in July 2024 and the ex-couple allegedly had to be “kept apart” during the National Television Awards the same year.

The pair met at a pub in West London and according to a pal, “hit it off immediately”.

The couple have gone Instagram official in April 2025 when Kai posted a picture of the two gazing into each other’s eyes.

The TV personality wrote in his caption: “Happiness is underrated,” along with a black heart emoji.

In May 2025, Kai appeared on Lorraine show to talk about his upcoming tour and said he was the “happiest I have ever been”.

He said: “I feel very very happy and it’s largely down to my other half as well.”

In June 2025, Kai and Chloe made their first public appearance as she joined him to celebrate the first night of his Evolution tour.

When is Strictly 2025 on for?

Strictly kicked off at 6.40pm on Saturday, 20th September, on BBC One and iPlayer, with the launch show setting pairings.

The first live show is scheduled shortly after, on September 27, 2025.

Alex Kingston is said to have been left ‘mortified’ after her “unintentional innuendo” during the Strictly Come Dancing launch show – which was cut before it was aired.

The BBC One dance contest returned earlier in September with the pre-recorded series opener, which saw the 15 new celebrity contestants welcomed into the ballroom for the first time.

And the stars of the popular programme are said to have been “howling with laughter” whilst filming the launch over a story from ER and Doctor Who star Alex, with co-star George Clarke now recalling the moment.

During the episode, which aired two weekends ago after having been filmed the week before it was broadcast, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman introduced the contestants, with the hosts having been seen asking them questions at one point.

It’s now been revealed that one interaction with Alex didn’t get broadcast, but had everyone in stitches at the time as it didn’t go the way the actress had planned.

Alex’s co-star, YouTuber George, 25, recalled the moment on an episode of the Useless Hotline podcast that was released last week. When the actor was brought up on the podcast, he told his co-host Max Balegde: “She’s so unintentionally funny just because of how sweet and lovely and nice she is.”

George then said that not all of Tess and Claudia’s questions to the contestants were kept in the launch show when it aired. He said: “They asked Alex one and it was so good her response. […]

“So somebody came round beforehand backstage, just sort of speaking to us and they’d just be like ‘that’s good so we’re gonna get Tess and Claudia to ask a question if you could just sort of lead into that story.'”

He continued by saying on the podcast: “[Tess or Claudia later] teed up with ‘So you, your family, your friends, they’re big Strictly fans, right? How did you tell them that you were first doing it?’ and then [Alex] led onto the story. But the way she delivered it was so good.

“She said, ‘Well, I was actually at my friend’s husband’s birthday and I know he’s a massive fan, so I thought I’d give him a little birthday gift, so I waited until everybody was asleep and then I snuck into his room and I told him I had a secret to give him.

“‘And then he was … I could see him getting stiffer and stiffer’ … and we all just wet ourselves. And she was like ‘No! with fright, with fright!'”

George added: “I can’t even remember what she said after that to try and save it but it basically just doubled down on the bit and we were like, ‘Not helping Alex!’ And it was just so funny. Claudia was wetting herself, just like said something like back. It was so good but she was just mortified afterwards.”

A source has since told the Mirror: “Alex’s unintentional innuendo had everyone howling with laughter in the studio. She was so shocked when she realised how it sounded.”

They added: “Sadly there wasn’t time to do the full story justice in the launch show, but everyone’s dying to see what Alex might come out with on air now Strictly’s live every Saturday night. Her and Claudia together should be TV gold.”
