Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been accused of pursuing a calculated plan to pressure King Charles over their security arrangements following their return to Britain.
TalkTV presenter Samara Gill claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may be waiting for their privacy to be breached so they can use the incident to strengthen their case for taxpayer-funded protection.
Gill offered no evidence that such a strategy exists, and her remarks were presented as personal opinion during an on-air discussion.
Harry and Meghan are currently believed to be living in the Cotswolds with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Their children are expected to attend school locally, although the family has not disclosed the school’s name or the precise location of its home.
Sussexes remain without state-funded protection
The couple have not been given permanent state-funded security since returning to Britain.
Harry’s representatives have been pressing Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood for a decision on a renewed security assessment, arguing that the level of risk has increased now that the family is spending more time in the UK.
Decisions concerning protection are handled by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, commonly known as Ravec. It assesses security arrangements rather than leaving such decisions solely to the monarch.
However, Gill suggested Harry and Meghan could be hoping that an unwanted approach from a reporter or photographer would provide evidence in support of their case.
“I think they almost want a bit of press intrusion,” she claimed.
“They want some junior reporter or some paparazzi who’s not in the know to go up to their place.”
The presenter also claimed to have seen part of the property, describing it as a “massive place” with a “Montecito in the Cotswolds type of vibe”.
Gill alleges couple could appeal to King
Gill went further by claiming the Sussexes might use any invasion of privacy to complain directly to Charles or challenge Ravec’s position.
“I think they’re waiting for their privacy to be invaded so that they can go to the King and complain,” she said.
She alleged that such an incident could be used to seek financial assistance or persuade the committee to approve taxpayer-funded protection.
There is no confirmed evidence that Harry or Meghan has deliberately encouraged press intrusion, and no official “King Charles plan” has been announced.
Meghan’s safety concerns dismissed on air
Gill also referred to reports that friends of Meghan had expressed concern about the duchess’s safety.
“I think this is all part of the victim narrative that’s already being spun,” she claimed, adding that Meghan’s friends had reportedly briefed People magazine about their worries.
The presenter then pointed to Meghan’s public appearances at Paris Fashion Week and Hollywood gala events, arguing that these were inconsistent with concerns about privacy.
She dismissed the couple’s reported fears as “a bunch of tosh” and suggested they were confusing extensive press coverage with genuine threats.
“There’s a big difference with a volume of articles written against you and actual security threats,” Gill said.
“In my opinion, I don’t think they’re that much under threat. They’re just scrutinised.”
Gill’s assessment does not represent an official security evaluation. The level of risk faced by the Sussexes is a matter for the relevant government and law-enforcement bodies rather than television commentators.
Harry’s team maintains that the family’s circumstances have changed now that they are living in Britain for an extended period. A decision on whether their protection arrangements should be revised has yet to be announced.
Until then, claims that the couple is deliberately seeking a privacy breach remain unsubstantiated speculation.
