BREAKING: Kensington Palace shares major update regarding Prince William on Harry 42nd birthday
Kensington Palace has confirmed a major engagement for Prince William on the same day his estranged brother Prince Harry is due to celebrate his 42nd birthday in Britain.
Harry will turn 42 on Tuesday, September 15, just weeks after returning to the UK with Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, following six years living in California.
But while the Duke of Sussex is expected to mark the occasion with his family, William will be more than 200 miles away carrying out official duties in Princetown, Dartmoor.
The Prince of Wales is due to launch the new Princetown Community Fund, an initiative aimed at supporting locally led projects across the area.
The timing is likely to attract attention because of the continuing distance between the brothers, who are reportedly still not on speaking terms.
William Heads to Dartmoor on Harry’s Birthday
Details of William’s engagement were shared following an announcement from Kensington Palace.
Majesty Magazine reported that William, in his role as Duke of Cornwall, will visit Princetown on September 15 to formally launch the Princetown Community Fund.
The fund will make at least £250,000 available to projects designed to deliver social, economic and environmental benefits for the local community.
William is expected to spend time meeting people directly involved in the area and hearing about the work already being carried out.
One of his stops will be Gather & Moor, a new community and cultural hub serving Princetown.
While there, the future King is expected to meet representatives from heritage business Princetown Press and learn more about its connection with the local area.
William will also visit a youth club and speak with residents.
The club recently received financial support from the Duchy of Cornwall to improve its facilities, meaning the visit will also give the Prince an opportunity to see how funding is being used at community level.
Brothers Set for Very Different Days
The engagement means William and Harry will spend Harry’s birthday in very different circumstances.
Harry is expected to be with Meghan, Archie and Lilibet following the family’s recent move back to Britain.
William, meanwhile, will be focused on his responsibilities as Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall.
There has been no suggestion that the scheduling of William’s visit is connected to Harry’s birthday.
Royal engagements are typically arranged well in advance, and the Palace announcement simply confirms William’s public duties for the day.
However, because of the long-running tensions between the brothers, the coincidence is likely to generate renewed interest in their relationship.

William’s Dartmoor visit will instead place the spotlight firmly on local organisations and the Duchy of Cornwall’s work in the region.
