Sky News viewers all had the same complaint as the broadcaster went live to New York to air Prince Harry’s speech at Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting in New York. The Duke of Sussex spoke about the dangers of AI and its effects on children at the event, as he returned to the US for his first public appearance since moving back to the UK.
He said: “The damage was already done to a generation of children and parents. We do not have years for what comes next.”
Prince Harry continued: “It’s the same playbook that built the last crisis — only now the technology is more persuasive, more intimate, and more powerful. And there is another difference this time. Social media learned how to capture our attention. AI is learning how to enter our relationships.
“It doesn’t just want your attention; it wants your attachment. It wants to be the thing you confide in.
“The thing that remembers you. The thing that tells you it understands you. The ultimate sycophant. For a child, that distinction matters enormously. We have spent years trying to loosen technology’s grip on children’s attention. We cannot wait another decade to discover what happens when technology has a grip on their relationship.”
But as Sky aired the speech, unimpressed viewers took to social media to share their frustration, as one said: “Prince Harry jumps bandwagons because he’s desperate for relevance.”

Another mused: “One step forward and two steps back is so apt.” A third asked: “Why’s a private citizen doing this?”
A fourth raged: “He’s such a loser. Is his wife still posting pics of where their kids are online?” as a fifth agreed: “He is such a nuisance. He forgets that he is just a private citizen!”
But others defended Harry, as one chimed in: “Hard to overestimate the importance of this speech. As a grandparent I want action.” A second penned: “He’s really good at public speaking.”
