Prince Harry’s “ultimate betrayal” of Prince William has been exposed just weeks after he returned to the UK. The surprise return of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after six years living in California has sparked hope across the country that the brothers will make up and move on from their years-long feud. But it appears their arrival has done little to repair their fractured relationship, with the two brothers understood to have had very little contact with one another.
The Duke of Sussex is thought to have repaired some bridges with his father, the King, during previous visits to the UK, yet he is not believed to have met with his brother. Now, royal author Andrew Morton has exposed the dad-of-two’s “betrayal” against the Duke of Wales, claiming Harry has turned into a “hitman” and shattered the family trust.
Reflecting on the relationship between Harry and William, the author claimed: “I’ve always argued that William saw, and so did Diana; they saw Harry as his wingman, and now he’s turned into a hitman. And that’s something which struck me very forcibly.
“But at the same time, Harry’s memoir and his real-life experience were very much a whinge. [He moaned] about the fact that he got the smaller room at Balmoral, he didn’t get as much money, and he wasn’t treated in the same way.
“Well, of course, he wasn’t treated in the same way; he was the spare. The clue’s in the title. William is the one who’s destined to be King, but it’s a very lonely position.” The author went on to explain that, just as Prince William was always destined to become King, Prince Harry was always destined to support him.
He went on: “The thinking was always from the Queen to Diana to the rest of the senior royals that Harry would support William. As temperamental as he was, people did feel that he would never betray the Royal Family, which sadly he did.”

On the podcast Heirs & Spares, host Kinsey Schofield and Rupert Bell discussed the writer’s comment and the impact Prince Harry’s shift from the Royal Family has had on the institution. Ms Schofield asked: “Does Harry not realise how harmful and hurtful [this is?]”
To which Mr Bell agreed: “Exactly. Why should the King apologise? Why should William apologise? It behoves Harry to wake up and say, ‘I think I might have overstepped the line’, but that’s not going to happen.
“I think William probably feels hurt, because he probably did think, ‘When I become King, I can trust my younger brother to be a loyal part of the family here. He will be supportive and help me do a job that I don’t have a choice to do’, just as the Princess Royal has been to her brother.
“She has been magnificent and unwavering in her loyalty to him, and Prince Edward to that extent as well. And that is what Prince William was expecting of his younger brother, but he’s not going to get that because Harry and Meghan want to be the King and Queen of this country.”
It didn’t take long for viewers to flock to the comments section to share their thoughts on the discussion online. Many users shared their support for the future King, with one user posting: “Stay strong, William! The people stand behind you!!!” as another agreed: “Harry will always be jealous of William”.
A third argued: “The only one who gains in a reconciliation is Harry. William should not reward the traitor for his treachery.” A fourth added: “It’s not about being a ‘spare’ it’s about being the younger brother. Anyone who has siblings understands this. Harry is completely odious.”
Meanwhile, a fifth chimed in with: “William has always been the ‘bigger man’ several times, and all he got in return was betrayal after betrayal from the traitors. Once a traitor, always a traitor, that’s the nature of betrayal.”
