Prince Harry blames Prince William for their father’s bombshell letter clarifying that there is “no change” to his and Meghan Markle’s status as private citizens, a royal source has revealed. Last week, the Sussexes were reportedly left “surprised” they had not been told about the King’s letter in advance following their return to the UK six years after stepping down as working royals.
Charles asked the Royal Household’s most senior officer, the Lord Chamberlain, to write to senior stakeholders across Government and the military to set out guidelines regarding Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal status. The letter stated there would be “no change” to the couple’s status and “their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used”. Now, a royal source has disclosed that the Duke of Sussex believes his estranged older brother is behind the move.

“Harry believes William’s influence is all over this. He accepts that the guidance ultimately comes from the King, but his feeling is that William strongly supported drawing the hardest possible line,” the source told Radar Online. “Given where relations between the brothers stand, Harry sees that as another deeply disappointing intervention from his estranged brother, and he is totally blaming him.”
According to the source, the Duke had hoped that returning to the UK could lead to a “more flexible relationship with the institution”.
“He feels William has helped ensure that door remains firmly closed,” they added.

Meanwhile, the King and his heir have been urged to sit down with Harry before relations completely fall apart, according to royal experts, over growing fears that the ongoing royal rift could worsen. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond warned that “drastic action” is urgently needed from the Monarch to stop the feud from spiralling.
“We don’t know what goes on between four walls or during phone conversations,” she said. “But it seems to me that father and son need to have a full, gloves-off, heart-to-heart.”
Meanwhile, royal biographer Duncan Larcombe claims senior royals feel they are backed into a corner and have “no choice” but to demand a summit with the Duke of Sussex. A source told Mr Larcombe: “William is extremely concerned about what Harry’s return to Britain will mean for working members of the family.
“It may well be too risky for them to just sit back and let Harry make the next move. There are suggestions that they feel they have no choice but to ask the Duke of Sussex for a face-to-face meeting to discuss the future and lay down, or at least reiterate, some of the rules.”
